Medication advice (spironolactone and birth control)

This is going to be a word salad, so I apologize in advance. I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago based on irregular periods and physical symptoms. I started taking spironolactone then and titrated my dose up to 100 mg per day. A few months later, my doctor dropped my dose to 50 mg per day at night only because I was having pretty bad tremors and some dizzy spells.

I also have had right-side abdominal pain off and on for two and a half years, and the pain is worse when I’m on my period. I had an abdominal ultrasound this week to look for ovarian cysts, and the images were described as “remarkably normal” by my doctor. She then prescribed me the lowest dose of tri-lo-sprintec (birth control) to take until I could get in with an OBGYN to discuss possible endometriosis.

Per my doctor, I also started titrating up the spironolactone earlier this month and am now taking 75 mg per day, with a goal of getting back to 100 mg per day to help with my physical PCOS symptoms. I am seeing an OBGYN in early September, and she said it is completely up to me if I start the birth control now or wait until after that appointment.

I know this is a lot of information, but does anyone have thoughts on if I should start the birth control now or wait until after my OBGYN appointment? I am leaning towards waiting, mostly so I can tell if the spironolactone is helping my acne and hair growth and to make sure I’m not having adverse side effects from upping that med.

Thank you in advance!

Any luck with abdominal ultrasounds?

Long story short, I have had low right-side abdominal pain off and on for over two years, and it is consistently worse when I’m menstruating. The first time it happened, I went to the ER to get checked for appendicitis, which I didn’t have. I have had the same pain off and on ever since, and was diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS based on irregular periods and physical symptoms a year ago.

My doctor put in orders for me to get an abdominal ultrasound to look for ovarian cysts and told me that I would have to get a transvaginal ultrasound if the images were unclear. Based on everything I’ve read, transvaginal ultrasounds provide much clearer images and are usually more definitive.

I’m trying to mentally prepare for this appointment and any other appointments I may have, so I want to have a realistic idea of how likely this abdominal ultrasound will be to provide good images. Has anyone had an abdominal ultrasound to look for cysts? Was it successful? What was the overall process like?

Thank you!

Where to upload raw data for health info?

I want to learn more about conditions/diseases I may be more likely to have or develop in the future. Has anyone had any luck uploading their raw data from Ancestry to other websites? I’ve looked at Promethease before, but has anyone used something that’s more user friendly? Thanks!

No surprises here!

I have always said that my background is “European Soup”. That can officially be updated to Western European Soup!

New side effects after years on Prozac?

Hi friends! I have been taking Prozac for over four years, with my dosage over the last three years at 40 mg. Over the last month or so, I have noticed an uptick in the side effects I initially experienced when starting Prozac: trouble falling asleep, drowsiness in the morning, stomach issues, to name a few. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I haven’t increased my dose recently, so it seems super random.

Thanks!!

Best martini downtown?

Pretty self explanatory, but what is your favorite spot for a good, classic martini in downtown Omaha? My standard order is a dry dirty vodka (or sometimes gin) martini. Recommendations for all over town are certainly welcome, but I want to find a go-to place in the Old Market. Thanks!
