Suggestions for Overseas Trip
Hi all,
My son (about to turn 8) was recently diagnosed with ADHD and GAD. He is on guafancine and doing better although often tired. We are going to Europe for ten days and in prep for that we did a dry run weekend by going to Montreal.
On that trip, we learned that he gets disregulated easily with new areas and activities but what was really interesting is that he quickly regulated himself once he got a chance to build boats out of leaves and float them in a fountain that we were nearby.
We have in the past observed this need to work with his hands as a regulatory mechanism. Considering plane rides, car rides, and strange worlds he will soon encounter, I want to make him a goodie bag of sorts that will allow him to work with hands and be creative as a regulating mechanism. Any ideas? Anything that worked for you? He is an improviser so had no interest in things like coloring books or crunch lab gift sets, etc. I asked my mother (who we are visiting) to buy him a whittling knife while there because he loves to woodwork.
Thankful for this community and for your help.
