I remember, back in middle school I used to LOVE toxic, obsessive characters. Who would legit murder for you. Idk it was always the bad guys for me. I spent my time listening to Rebzyyx and other underground scenecore artists. But the songs they wrote bordered on unhealthy obsession and I kinda thrived in that, still do. There has been a trend of “weird kids” in the internet and I wonder how tf the most basic person I've known, is suddenly a “weird kid?” now. No, having your heart broken in discord chat, or liking My Little Pony doesn't make you “weird” Jessica.

Ik the same ppl who promote “niche” fandoms would very likely hate on Dark Romance fans. I've legit seen someone say: “I’m a weird kid but we're romanticizing abuse and toxic relationships now??”, “If you're a woman and like [Insert story name/ toxic character name], there is something seriously wrong with you.” Guess what, it's fictional. And there are real fans of ts, who'd never hurt or bully ppl irl. And yet you can't let them peacefully enjoy their cup of toxic men and codependent relationships. Yes, my type of yandere is often highly manipulative and mean, my type of relationship dynamic is bully/victim. I've liked that, always. And guess what, that used to be stressful asf. Especially when everyone around you, thought it was wrong to enjoy dark/ negative media. Heck, I've been called a nerd for liking Dostoevsky, back when he wasn't a thing in the internet.

So now when I see ppl analysing the psychology of DR fans, I get like: “Chill, it's not that deep.” Cuz it really is not that deep, let us enjoy what we want to. I'm not saying all DR fans relate to the sentiment of being a “weird kid.” Buty point still stands. A DR fan or not, if you claim yourself to be a “bullied and weird kid,” you should NEVER bully others for their FICTIONAL tastes.

He gifts her expensive and pretty lingerie, makeup and all the girly stuff. She dolls herself up for him, tries her best to be pretty for him. And she's a blushing, shy, submissive girl. Maybe she's more gentle and gets punished for trying to steal kisses. Give the absolute scariest mmcs you know. Like even their stare terrifies the fmc and the readers. Manipulative asf, he doesn't give a shit and takes what he wants.

I love AO3. Books are fine too. Don't want a sassy fmc, she should want to be pretty for the mmc, devoted to him. No age gaps, no om/ ow, no RH/sharing. No dead ex.

Ofc romance/ love has to be there. But every rec I've ever read, the bullying is always: The guy mocks her/ manipulates her/ possible non con. That's shitty but not exactly ....bullying.

My definition of bullying is cornering the girl in a silent hallway or in some room, then maybe vandalizing her stuff, stripping her, etc. Or maybe publicly humiliating her, nitpicking at everything she does, dumping milk on her. Or perhaps isolating her for years, so that he can have her solely for himself. Real torturous HS/ college life is what I enjoy. How the girl reacts to the bullying depends a lot. She *somehow* gets stockholm syndrome or who knows, she's also unhinged and thrives in the attention she's getting from her bully. I think that is true psychological horror with romance.

{Black Knight by Rina Kent} often gets recommended for bully romances but I thought they were more enemies. Even {Fear Me by B.B. Reid} was mostly plot centered but the “bullying” extended to mockery/ humiliation. Ofc the dynamic was toxic asf, but he was mostly the sadist. The first chapter of {Untouchable by Sam Mariano} does it really well, though unfortunately the book didn't stay as dark.

Bully romances often never portray a romance between an actual bully and his victim. And that's somewhat disappointing to me.
