Oath packet

I passed Feb 2026. How long after you pass the MPRE does the oath packet get sent out? What’s a realistic timeline for practice after MPRE results? I have a job already.

What’s been your experience with support getting back to you?

It used to be just a few days merely months ago. It’s been over a week now. I’m familiar with their recently disclosure that it could take one week+ but I’m wondering what your personal experience has been like in the last few months.

My ex is representing me probono

Last year I dated a man I deeply respected and mentored me. The relationship came before the mentoring part. I was in law school and he’s a practicing family law attorney. We met on a dating app. I went to a lot of his hearings and we spent a significantly amount of time talking about his cases and he taught me so much. He’s a really good person and I valued his ethics. It’s rare to find an attorney who leads with his values and is unwavering in them. We had a lovely relationship. The sex was out of this world. We’re both foodies, we laughed a lot, we’re intimate a lot, and I learned so much from him.

Where the relationship failed is that I am loud and impulsive and my personality is large. He is not. He’s calm. He’s very even keeled and emotionally leveled. When we confronted conflict I wanted to talk about it and he wanted to forget about it. These fundamental differences made it clear we were never going to work out long term.

We ended on good terms. Neither one of us villainized each other. But it was extremely hard on me. I mourned it for a very long time. It hurt me deeply to let him go. I wasn’t in love yet but I could easily have been if I allowed myself to be.

Fast forward almost a year. I’ve passed the bar and graduated law school. I have one more requirement to meet before I can practice. I’ll be sworn in in September.

I have a teen. Their dad and I split when they were a baby and we’ve had shared custody since then. Recently, dad fell off the deep end and it’s a very horrible situation. I reached out to my attorney ex to review my petition and give me feedback. I didn’t expect him to provide so much help and support. I truly thought he’d read and give me some quick tips and pointers. Instead he took the time to review everything in depth and with a lot of care. He read text exchanges with my teens dad. He saw some ugly parts of me I hadn’t showed him before. He saw how messy my financial situation is. Then something else came to light with teens dad that makes my case more complicated. Attorney ex then expressed to me he was going to represent me pro bono, completely unprompted, I didn’t even hint at this nor did I expect it or even have the thought as being in the realm of possibility. This happened over the course of a few weeks—me reaching out, him giving feedback, a few follow ups, the development, and then his exclamation.

I am beyond grateful. I respect this man and there’s no one else I feel I would be in better hands with. I was going to represent myself because I cannot afford an attorney. It’s an incredible blessing and I’m so grateful.

However, I’m worried seeing attorney ex is going to stir up old feelings. I’m worried I’m going to want him back and that I’ll be sad again. I trust myself not to say or act on these things even if the feelings come up. I trust that he would never cross that line either. He’s a very ethical person and is unwavering in his values. I also worry that I’ll feel rejected again. I know this would be a perceived rejection.

The thing is I deeply respect this man. He’s doing me an incredible favor. He has to drive two hours to my hearing then three to his own in another county where he lives. He’s investing his own time and money to help me. I am extremely attracted to him. Our physical chemistry is out of this world. I also feel so seen and cared for (which has been difficult for me in the past) because he’s standing by me in this case and he’s helping me protect my daughter. All of it feels very loving. He’s been nothing but professional since we reconnected. I do feel like it’s a bit cold if I’m being honest but I also know that I’m in a very vulnerable place emotionally.

Any insight, perspective, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Single lawyers who date

How do you deal with people who like to tell you that they love to debate and are attracted to you for that quality? For me—it irks me. First of all, I spend all day being an adversary. Second, forgive me, but unless you’re also highly educated and understand logical reasoning, you’re likely not someone I want to debate anyways. And lastly, I just wanna be held like a little baby after spanking DAs all day. Is that too much to ask?!
