Looking to hear others’ experiences!

I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease about 8 months ago and have been on methimazole. My recent thyroid labs and antibodies are now normal, and my endocrinologist decreased my dose to 5 mg 3x/week and gave me the okay to start trying to conceive.
Her plan is that if I get a positive pregnancy test, I’ll stop methimazole, monitor my labs, and only start PTU if I become hyperthyroid again.
Has anyone had a similar plan? How did it go? I see many women are switched to PTU before trying to conceive, so I’m curious why different endocrinologists take different approaches.
I’m also a little nervous that pregnancy could trigger my Graves’ since I’m not in remission yet. I’d love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Hi ladies!

Just wanted to get your thoughts on Grave’s disease and pregnancy. I was diagnosed 8 months ago and have been on Methimazole this whole time. My dose was decreased from 10 mg daily to 5 mg 6x/week. My most recent labs (TSH, T3, T4) were all normal. I’m still waiting on my TRAB and TSI levels.

I’ve read that it takes at least a year to go into remission. I’m not sure if I should wait to conceive after a year to make sure that I’m in remission OR start conceiving and be on medication during pregnancy. I was told to switch to PTU once I’m pregnant. I’ve also heard that you can go into remission during pregnancy but my endo says that may not happen since your immune system is more active during pregnancy. I’m just scared about complications with pregnancy if I’m on meds during it or my graves getting worse.

So wanted to hear your thoughts on this matter!! Thank you so much.

Hi, I’m dropping my dog off at Texas coalition for animal protection (TCAP) in Allen next week for dental cleaning and was told that pick up is at 3pm. Does anyone know what the latest pick up time is? I have work until 4pm so wanted to see if I can pay a late fee for pick up. Thank you!!
