Land Rover transplant here. For years I’ve been Volvo-curious and I finally took the plunge. Picked up this XC70 for $1k from a retired aerospace engineer who meticulously maintained it over the years. 3rd photo is the spreadsheet he kept and updated with each service and repair. He also included all service records. Right now she’s sitting at 200k miles and I’m hoping to get at least another 100k out of it - but from what I’ve seen in this sub, I may get even more!

This is gonna be an occasional driver/project car. My goal is to turn this in to an overland/mountain ride for weekend camping and hiking trips. Planning on adding a lift, some A/T tires, roof rack and exterior lamps. The basics for that sort of thing.. however I want to make sure shes mechanically sound before I do any of that.

Super clean inside and out with minor cosmetic wear. The worst is a tiny dent on the driver door and a little whistle coming from the sunroof. Currently runs and drives like a dream! Adding some window tint asap (to beat the Vegas sun) and hopefully a new touchscreen car-play device to replace the very outdated stereo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First Photoshoot After Lowering + P2 RTI CarPlay Retrofit!

After months of planning, wrenching, collecting parts, and asking way too many questions, my 2006 Volvo XC70 D5 finally got its first proper photoshoot after the lowering project.

I recently removed the factory 4C suspension and installed a conventional setup with Sachs dampers and V70 AWD springs. The goal wasn't to slam it, but to give the car a cleaner stance while keeping it comfortable enough for long road trips and daily use. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

As if that wasn't enough, yesterday I also installed the Xccessories Customs P2 RTI Retrofit screen. It replaces the old RTI display and adds modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while keeping the OEM look. Honestly, it feels like something Volvo could have offered from the factory if the P2 platform had lived another decade.

The XC70 has just passed the 500,000 km mark and it's still my favorite car I've ever owned. It's my daily driver, road trip machine, photography rig, family wagon, and now it's looking better than ever.

What do you think about a lowered P2 XC70? Love it or should Cross Countrys stay at stock height?

Bonus points if anyone else here is running the Xccessories Customs RTI retrofit — I'd love to hear your experience with it.

📸 First photos after the suspension swap attached! 🚙💨

Cheers

👋Hey everyone! I'm TNSgraphy, a new moderator of r/VolvoXC70

I'm very excited to start my new journey as a moderator here at r/VolvoXC70.

I've been a Volvo enthusiast for many years, and my daily driver is a 2006 Volvo XC70 D5 AWD with over 500,000 km on the clock. Like many of you, I enjoy maintaining, repairing, modifying, and simply enjoying these fantastic cars.

Outside of Reddit, I work as an automotive teacher in Estonia and spend a lot of my free time around cars, whether that's wrenching on them or photographing them through my automotive photography project, TNSgraphy.

As a moderator, my goal is to help keep this community friendly, welcoming, and informative for everyone—from first-time XC70 owners to long-time Volvo veterans. I also hope to encourage more discussions, technical knowledge sharing, project updates, road-trip stories, and photos of your XC70s.

Thank you for having me here. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and helping this community continue to grow.

Feel free to introduce yourselves below and tell us a little about your XC70!

Cheers,

Tõnis (TNSgraphy)

If you haven't seen, then this is my XC70 and I just lowered it 🫣

Lowered My 2006 XC70 Today – First Suspension Mod I've Ever Done and I Couldn't Be Happier!

Today was the day — I finally lowered my 2006 Volvo XC70 D5!

Honestly, I can't put into words how happy I am right now. 🥹

I spent the day in the school workshop where I work as an automotive teacher, and one of my students joined me for the project. We started around 9:00 AM and wrapped everything up around 5:00 PM.

My XC70 originally came with the 4C suspension system, but I decided to go with a 4C delete setup. Replacement 4C components are becoming difficult to find and are very expensive, so this felt like the most sensible long-term solution.

For the setup, I used OEM V70 springs that a friend generously gave me and paired them with new OEM XC70 struts.

We started on the front left corner and worked our way around the car. After installing one front and one rear corner, we couldn't resist taking it down off the lift to see the difference. 😄

The final result:

Front: approximately 30 mm lower

Rear: approximately 20 mm lower

And honestly, it's exactly what I was hoping for.

What makes this even more special is that I've never modified the suspension on any of my previous cars. This was a completely new experience for both me and my student, and it was incredibly rewarding to learn and do it together.

The car still keeps its XC70 character, but now sits just a little lower and looks much more purposeful.

If anyone is considering a similar setup or has questions about the 4C delete, spring choice, ride quality, or installation process, feel free to ask. I'd be happy to share what I've learned.

Thanks for reading, and cheers from Estonia! 🇪🇪🚙💙

Photos are back to front 😂

Having soo much fun

I hope you're all doing great! I know I am ❤️

I reached level 31 this March and also started my first-ever teaching career at the same vocational school I graduated from 11 years ago as a car mechanic.

And yes... you guessed it — I'm teaching automotive subjects there now.

The past 5–6 months have been an incredible experience. Some of my colleagues used to be my teachers, which still feels a little surreal. The students are great too, even when they're testing the waters with me from time to time. 😄

As a father of two (4 years old and 18 months old), I can definitely say that some parenting skills carry over into teaching.

Because of my passion for photography, I also started an automotive photography hobby club for students at the school. And wow... I honestly didn't expect so much interest. The group grew much bigger than I ever imagined.

Today we finally got to try shooting rolling shots for the first time. A little bit of theory, a lot of practice — and as they say, practice makes perfect.

I'm genuinely proud of the students and excited for what's ahead. Our next session is on Thursday, and I can't wait.

Here are some of my photos from today's shoot!

Take care!

My first official meet

Soo had my first Nordic x JDM x VAG meet last weekend.

It was soo cool tbh. Had a blast with friends and new people.

So our event was announced like two months before. Week before our event started to merge more events on same day and it got me really scared. Hahahaha

Out event was a first time and others were older ones. Soo usually people look something what's familiar. Luckily we got like 10 cars and that made me really happy.

Have you ever done a meet? How it went? What were your biggest concerns?

Hope you like the photos

Take care!

Volvo adventures

Sooo last Saturday was a busy day. I woke up with the kids early in the morning. To start our drive to Tallinn. I had worked for a car meet Nordic x JDM x VAG season opener 2026 for couple of months and it was to set off at 12:00 midday. But I wanted to have a photoshoot with my good friend before it. So we did. I hope you like them! (Will post my friend car photos sometime later)

Cheers!

Yesterday I watched a video from youtube and of course it was about cars. 😅

Nothing new but the guy said that if you don't look back for your car after you parked it, it's not your car.

Safe to say this is my car and I really love it ❤️

Please take your time, enjoy and say hi 🤭🫣

Take care ❤️
