Why does it seems some comic fandom circles (This sub being an exception) don’t really talk about Young adult graphic novels and that entire sector of the market?

(Image is of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman. Needed a image to use as an example)

They seem to focus solely on superheroes, their hatred and/or love of one of two companies and comparing it to manga?

Did anyone also read this comic as a kid? I remember loving it and now I look back and the art reminds me so much of hellboy.

How to you guys feel about housing density? And in particular high density housing?

I took a ride near some newer housing developments near Rotokauri and it kind of struck me how much I dislike it. One of the reasons I disliked it is I kinda thought it was a bad use of space. I dunno, as someone who’s grown up in suburbs I’ve grown to hate them somewhat, though that is probably 100% my personal biases.

I thought I’d ask you lot the question and see what the general opinion is? My thought is if Hamilton has to grow it should be up not out, but again I might be alone on that.

Say we met friendly aliens , and we decided to put on a little cultural festival to further introduce ourselves. What would you have at that festival (a performance? A showcase?) that you feel would best represent your country? (Let's keep this positive today. There’s enough negativity in the world)

Forgive the incredibly silly photoshop :P. Plus Project Hail Mary inspired this question in the first place.

I think NZ would differently send a Haka and a lot of cultural dancers to said hypothetical event. Also something that would be cool is if we put on a small Rugby tournament. Other countries could get in on that too.

How to find a partner in Hamilton?

So I'm austitic. I'm saying that upfront as it might explain a few things. I've never had a girlfriend before and at time it feels like I'll always be alone. I've been trying to improve myself. Tried to make friends and such. And now I want to try dating because I have to stop crushing on my female friends. Because thats unfair.

Totally clueless when it comes to this stuff. Hoping for some advice.

Whats a word that's a slur in your country but fine to use in another country?

For instance in the UK it's common to use the word "Fag" to refer to a cigarette, but in the US it's olny a slur.

Bonus question to those from the commonwealth: Do you also use this term for cigarettes? I'm not sure I know the general opinion for NZ myself. I know alot of LGBTQ+ folks and not alot of smokers, so I think any perspective I give is skewed somewhat.

What's your favourite Chocolate brand from your country?

Whittakers is the best chocolate ever!!! Cadbury kinda sucks in comparison (at least here).

How do you feel about English as a lingua franca? It's what allows us to communicate on this sub, but do you ever worry about its prevalance?

u/LivingAssociate2242 — 27 days ago

Deeply silly question, but say we met some friendly aliens (and we were also equally friendly. So basically Star Trek) and decided to introduce some of our sports to them. What are some sports that your country loves that you would want to introduce to them? Maybe in a showcase.

Are there any dishes from one country that are basically the same as a dish from another country, but people argue are different? (Read the body text)

Inspired by me watching a youtube short about Messi’s favourite dish, Milanesa napolita. There was an aussie in the comments saying it was pretty much the exact same as a chicken parm (Though from what I understand, Milanese Napolita can some times be beef or Veal?) and there were a bunch of Argentinas arguing with him. It was really werid.

Which city has the best and worst public transit in your country? And are any of them improving? (Include maps if you can :))

Auckland is the system Im most familar with. It's mostly good but could be improved. Like alot the states we had alot of trams but they got pulled out when the automobile became popular.

What are some of your favourite arenas from your country? How easy are they to get to?

Spark Arena (Auckland) and Claudelands (Hamilton, my town). Both pretty accessible.

So I want to write an indie Sci-fi/Horror book. What are some tip you would give to make sure I make the book as good as possible?

Thinking about writing and publishing a story idea I had. Kind of a mix of Hardish Sci fi and Splatter punk. Any tips before I begin?

Evil Dead Burn is really damn funny (But in the most fucked up way possible). I loved it. I wanna talk about it.

The really dark humor just really connected to me and my friends.

What stadiums in the US do you actually like?

The fact is that alot of stadiums in the US just seem to have too much parking space. What are some stadiums in the US that actually look great to you. I noticed that NFl stadiums are the worse, while alot of MLB and NBA/NHL arenas are fare better (With some notable exceptions)

Also does parking for boats by a stadiums annoy anyone? just asking because of the picture.

Why is it so hard to make friends as an austitic adult? (Sorry I just need to vent. Having a bad day)

Beware the following is probably both annoying and needy. You can ignore it or call me a prick. I likely deserve it.

So I've struggled to make friends all my life, and it has gotten worse since becoming an adult. I’m 27 and I feel like I've been stuck in a state of limbo since school. Everyone is busy and I wish I was busy, but I can seem to find a job (Even Woolworths wont hire me).

I try to go out to things (meet and greet events, board games clubs etc) but it never improves. What's wrong with me? I just feel stuck. And like their no way out.

Which stadium is the best/worst at this in your country?

Does your country play rugby at all? Or a version of it?

Bonus question: What is the origin of your rugby-like game? From what I understand a lot of rugby derivatives came to be because Rugby union refused to go pro until 1995.

In NZ rugby is the main sport, though it has been losing participation due to health concerns and changing demographics (at least with the guys. Womens rugby has actually gotten popular recently which is cool) . We are still great at it though.

To those from countries who don't really play either sport, between Baseball and Cricket which seems the more interesting game? or are they both equally uninteresting to you?

Bonus question: Which bat would you rather have as a self defense weapon?

I'm from a cricket playing nation, but weridly I pefer baseball. Cause honestly cricket can be kinda seen as a snooty white person game in NZ (I'm Maori so that colours my perception). Plus Indians but thats a more recent development.
