To add to the hypothetical, the person or company who makes your favourite piece of media (be a franchise, a food product, anything) was going through severe financial problems, they were spending too much or the things necessary to do their job became too expensive, don't matter, they are close to bankruptcy. So, would you offer yourself to work with that person or with that company, to keep making that thing you like happen, even if for no financial return? Just for the love of it? Maybe you could even improve this thing you like and save it from financial collapse.
