Finally got a job after years of being unemployed, but is ₱18k worth it? 😭
Hi everyone! I’d really appreciate some advice because I’m honestly torn.
I finally got hired after being unemployed for several years. Technically, I’ve been helping with my family’s business, but since it’s a small/start-up business, I only get paid whenever there’s a project, and it’s really not much.
So when I got an actual job offer, I immediately said yes because I really want proper work experience. The salary is ₱18k/month.
But after computing my expenses, I realized that after SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, food, and transportation, less than ₱10k would be left. I also want to help out at home now that I’m earning, particularly with our ₱1,500 internet + around ₱1,000 water bill, so I’d have even less left for myself.
There’s also a 2-week training in Manila starting this weekend. I’m still unsure about accommodation and would need to shoulder around ₱4k transportation upfront, although they said it will be reimbursed. I’ve already paid for my medical and other requirements. Ive already paid thr medical exam and completed na din yung requirements.
The dilemma is that a family friend also promised me a job related to what I actually graduated in, but it won’t start until October and isn’t 100% guaranteed. The salary won’t be high either, but at least it’s aligned with my career.
Would you guys continue with the ₱18k job for the experience, or wait for the October opportunity despite the uncertainty?
I’ve been unemployed for years, so I’m scared to pass up an actual job, but financially, I’m wondering if it’s worth it. Training starts this weekend, so I really need to decide soon.
What would you do?
