A college student that needs help!

hello everyone! I am a college student, and I have a job and work 30 hours a week. Which gives me a monthly salary of around $1550. I need to find a side hustle take gives me $500-700 more a month and that’s online and I can do at any point during the day (most likely online) I would really really appreciate suggestions! Thank you so much!

Advice on buying a car!

Hi everyone! I'm 18 and starting college in Florida this fall, and I'm trying to figure out if financing a car right now is the smartest financial decision.

Here's my situation:

  • About $5,000 for a down payment (I could increase it to around $8,000, but I'd rather keep it at $5k if possible).
  • Expected interest rate between 2.5% and 5%.
  • My credit score is 768, but I just turned 18 and only recently started building my own credit, so the loan will most likely be under my dad's name since he has an 820 credit score. I'll be making all the payments.
  • I have about $13,000 in a high-yield savings account as my emergency fund.
  • I've been working since I was 16, and I plan to max out my Roth IRA this year and continue doing so while also investing in a taxable brokerage account.

My main question is: Does financing a car make sense given my situation, or would you recommend a different approach? Since the interest rate would likely be between 2.5% and 5%, my thought is that it may make more sense to finance and keep investing rather than putting a huge amount down.

If I do buy one, I'm looking for something:

  • Reliable and inexpensive to maintain.
  • Preferably a small sedan (or compact SUV—I just don't want to look like a mom of five at 18 😂).
  • With Apple CarPlay and a modern interior.
  • Ideally 2020 or newer, under 40,000 miles, and with a clean title.

I've mainly been looking at Honda, Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai. I know Honda and Toyota are the safest bets reliability-wise, but I prefer Kia and Hyundai interiors and features.

Do you think financing is the right move? Would you put more money down, or invest the difference instead? And if you have any car recommendations that fit what I'm looking for, I'd appreciate those too. Thanks!

I need car suggestions ?

Hello! I'm starting college in Florida this fall and I'm looking to buy my first car. I have about $5,000 for a down payment, and my main goal is to keep my monthly payment as low as possible (under $300 hopefully).

The loan will be under my dad's name since he has much better credit (around 820), but I'll be the one making all the payments.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Reliable. I want something that's not going to live at the mechanic. I'm perfectly fine with regular maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, etc., but I don't want to deal with constant repairs.
  • don't like big cars. I prefer small sedans, but I'm open to compact SUVs. Honestly, I'd rather have a sedan because I don't want to look like a mom of five at 18. 😂
  • I really like modern interiors with a touchscreen and Apple CarPlay. I know how to drive... I just don't always know where I'm driving, so CarPlay is a must for GPS.
  • Ideally 2020 or newer (2023+ would be amazing, but I know that might be pushing my budget).
  • Under 40,000 miles.
  • clean or mostly clean history—definitely no branded/rebuilt titles.

I've mainly been looking at Honda, Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai. I know Honda and Toyota are known for reliability, but I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Toyota's interiors. I really like Kia's interiors and all the features they offer, but I've heard mixed opinions on their reliability, so I'm not sure what to think. Hyundai has also caught my eye.

What would you recommend based on my budget and what I'm looking for? Are there any models or years I should specifically look for—or avoid? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
