From choosing your destination to settling, what was your expat process?

Hi. I'm an Italian student in my 20s. I speak three languages (english, italian and french) and have a pretty firm desire to leave as soon as possible. I'm probably going to do uni here as Italy does have some pretty good schools and degrees that are recognised throughtout most of the EU, so it's a pretty smart choice (i hope) that will avoid me going through agony to have my degrees recognised abroad.

I've been considering my options for a while now but i'm not sure what to prioritize (yes i know its my choice and have to figure it out for myself bc its a choice that depens on my own priorities, BUT) i would love to hear from people who have left their country early in life (like their 20s, like im planning on doing) and what they where looking for (and why) in their destinations. Did you focus more on the state of the economy? The quality of life? How easy it is to find a job there? Do you recommend to look for somewhere where the money value exchange is in my favour to save my pockets? To travel thanks to uni/scholarships and find a way to stay later or to move indipendently from study if I plan on settling abroad? Did you move because you knew you had family there who could support?

Basically: i would love to hear your stories. Where you started, where you've ended up, why and how because i think that kind of process isn't talked about enough and i find it interesting and figure it might help put some things into perspective for me because i might find out about things i've not considered yet. Thanks to all those who will share.

What to do with my autism diagnosis

Late diagnosis here. I'm almost done with school and by this time next year will be going to university. While im glad that i finally got a diagnosisi becase it gave me so much insight but my mother and i have different opinions on whether to inform the school or not.

CONTEXT: Thanks to how i was raised and my habit to question everything i was alway a high grades student which, paradoxically, set me up for very difficult confrontations with teachers who think i'm entitled just because i question authority and rules as well as everything else.

I personally think the diagnosis is a way to inform the school that i'm not a prick. People tend to assume that getting high grades=smart person=someone who picks up on social cues and is well behaved. At least that's the expectation i feel thrust upon me. It's like they don't understand that my questions come from a place of wanting to understand and not disrespect because in their mind a "smart high grades person" isn't as stupid as not to understand normal people social cues and unwritten rules and such. Too bad for them, I'm autistic. Does it feel like i want to push my diagnosis in their face in hopes to make them feel like shit educators? Because thet's what i'm planning on.

I've also had many instances in which i tried to convey a limit of mine to professors, but they staright up didn't understand or thought that I was acting like a spoiled kid, (which was not my intention and i still fail to see how my words could've gotten so lost in translation) so yeah i want emotional payback. Sue me.

My mother on the other hand, doesen't want to tell my school i'm autistic because she fears that they will "dumb down" my curriculum and ruin my chance to get out of school with perfect grades and that if i held out so long, one more year won't cost me much.

As educators, would you advise me to notify the school even if i only have a year left or to keep doing whatever i'm doing because if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Is religion necessary in schools?

Serius question, no hate. I just want to know your povs.

I live in a laic country but public schools still inculde religious education in the curriculum and i really dont get why. We already have philosophy and history if we want to talk about different minsets and cultures. If anyone wants to go investigate deeper they can ask more info to a religius centre (like a mosque or a church etc etc), so why do we have to study religion in school?

I find that any RE teacher i ever had either teached one more hour of philosophy (from someone who doesen't have a philosophy degree) or tried to convert the atheists in the class, so really, is religion necessary in schools?

Did you suspect that there would've been angels?

So this is maybe my 3rd rewatch? And I've finally convinced my mother to watch the show with me (shes a 1st time watcher mind you). She was very into the story and got into it quickly, especially when demons got involved.

When we got to S4 ep1 (Cas' introduction) she caught me totally off guard by asking if Dean was resurrected by God himself. I asked why she thought that and she said "well if demons have nothing do to with this maybe it's God or angels". I asked why she thought that angels could be a part of this series (mostly because on my first watch I had no idea and it kinda pissed me off that she got it) and she said that when Sam and Dean do incantations and exorcisms they say blessings in Latin (she knows Latin btw) and oftentimes say stuff like "in the name of god/by the power of God", leading her to think that if blessings work against demons its because there's an actual power behind these words, basically "confirming" the existence of god in the series.

I have no words. This woman has been waiting for angels since s2 on her FIRST watch.

Did y'all also suspect that angels would be introduced or were there others like me? If you did suspect that angels would be there, what gave it away?

Piratare e scaricare contenuti in italiano

Adoro i pirati.

AITA for not wanting to accompany my cousin home?

My friends and I(M18) have had plans to hangout after school on our last day of school. These plans have been discussed for a while, both in chat and irl so that everything could go as smooth as possible. We all go to the same school in the city but we are all from different town in the province, and from the city we arranged to go to a friend's house 40 minutes away because she has a pool, we'll cal this friend P. In the friend group there's also my "cousin"(close family friend) F16. I have to say her age bc it will make sense later in the story. My cousin and I are from the same town, an hour away from the city (so in total it would take a little under 2hrs for us to get home) so it makes sense that I would want to stay at the pool a while, considering how long it takes to get there and back.

A couple days before the hangout (the day this post is being written) my cousin told me that she wanted to take the 5pm bus home, meaning we would have to leave by 4 something pm. I asked her if she was sure because we get out of school at 2pm and given that it takes an hour to get there we would only have an hour to hang out (from 3 to 4). She said she'd asked her parent and that she could actually get back later. I thought it was over then and was genuinely looking forward to this hangout, despite me not liking pools or the beach, bc I want to spend time with my friends.

Today (THE DAY OF THE HANGOUT) we were discussing which bus exactly to get (if the 7pm or the 8pm) with everyone else BC despite being from different towns, we have the same bus stop and similar bus arrival hours, so it would be four of us going from P's house to the bus stop (which, need I remind, is an hour away) and my cousin told us that she'd need to take the 7pm bus at the lates because she has a family event to attend. Nothing wrong with that. Shit happens. I told her that she could go home earlier without a problem bc I believe that if she could, she would choose to stay. Immediately after saying this my friends P and another one, S, said no. I guess the implication was that since I am her "cousin" I should go with her but I don't see why. I have no curfew and want to hang out with my friends as long as possible because I do not like being home. Why should I retire earlier just because she has an engagement she did not want us about? We would have gladly moved dates if she just communicated her need, no problem. (Also I don't think it's likely she just found out today because she would have said so. Anyone would have said if the had JUST found out.)

My first instinct after they told me no was to tell them that I kinda mind having to go home earlier but that it would be fine and that I would go with her. My cousin is now sad because she feels like she's forcing me to retire early (which she objectively is) and I told her it's fine and that we can hang out other times, which I believe to be true.
