LLB - is it mandatory to do SQE modules to become a solicitor?

In my second year. Still deciding whether to go down the solicitor or barrister route. I’m likely to go down the solicitor route but after the degree I may go down the barrister route. Obviously to be a barrister you need to have studied the seven foundations of legal knowledge hence why I’m in two minds.

Anyone know why there’s so little lawyers from black/Asian backgrounds?

The Bar Council released stats show that basically 90% of barristers are white despite e.g London being one of the most diverse cities in the world. Obviously if you‘re competent skin colour shouldn’t matter but I’m surprised the number of Asians/blacks isn’t higher e.g 20% at least. Is there a racial bias or just a lot less of them apply?

Representing myself as LiP against Metropolitan Police. Will this stand out for a pupilage application?

I am currently handling a few civil cases against the them. The trials will likely be this year. I am planning to apply for pupilage next year. Is this something that will stand out on a CV?

Anyone know if the Open University (OU) LLB is well respected for pupilage opportunities?

Obviously it’s not Oxford or Cambridge however I would have thought the distance learning element of OU would be highly respected thereby increasing chances for pupilage opportunities.
