Recently i started taking interest in other countries gun laws. Especially in britan because i realize you have some rather strict laws.
Would you mind giving me quick run down on your gun laws? What guns one can own, how long does it take to get the license. What are the conditions you have to meet to get it. What are you homedefense/self defense laws. How the gun ranges are like in UK.
Thank you very much
What is the average wait time for people in the UK? I’ve now reached the two and a half year mark and I called them and all I got was it’s still with f****** admin!
How are people across the country getting on??
Hi all. im halfway though my FAC appliction. just waiting for my referee to finish filling the form so ive started looking at safes. Im only asking for 2 guns but feel this may expand in the future. so probably 3-4 safe should be ok.
I also noted on the form that I will use the internal ammo compartment for ammo. That said ive since read that some forces want separate ammo safes.
Is it best to contact the force before submitting the app (and buying a safe) just to make sure whats acceptable.
I feel theres alot of chicken and egg questions for a first time app.
I was once, many years ago stopped, bretherlised and arrested for drink driving.
It the station after booking in, I blew under so was taken back to my car.
I was not charged.
Do I still need to mention this on my fac application?
I understand it’s testing your honesty but it asks for convictions, which this was not.
Thanks.
Wonder if you guys can help me with this, I'm looking to acquire a KelTec handguard for my airsoft gun/ RIF that is not available in the UK.
I have tried to do some research into the laws around this but couldn't get a definitive answer. The gun shops in the US will not ship to the UK due to their laws, but I have friends in the states who could post.
My question is, as this is a non pressure bearing part, could I have my Yankee friend order the part and send it to me legally? Part is the handguard for the KelTec RDB "Survival"
Alternatively, are there any KelTec dealers in the UK I can get in touch with to see if the part can be ordered in for me. (Currently waiting on a response from calibreinnovations.co.uk as they had stock of KelTec guns)
Worse case, I'm hoping to go over there to see friends later in the year so I could just stick it in the suitcase like I've done before.
(Apologies for the pic of an airsoft gun if that isn't allowed...)
Thanks
Hi guys so b4 i do a deep dive and potentially fine nothing as i have done quick searches in the past and found nought, im kinda hoping theres someone here that could just give me a list of what i would need to travel out of the UK with guns and/or ammo. Like do i need a "gun passport" or something??
Thabks muchly
Looking for recommendations for good ear defenders. Currently been making do with the cheapest I could find and looking to upgrade to something a bit more quality. Slight preference towards in ear ones, but open to over ears if they’re worth it. Don’t want to spend too much though (looking for around the £250 mark. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
If not, which ones are not considered as readily convertible?
Stoeger XM1 Bolt Action Pre-Charged Pneumatic Air Rifle .22
I've been really impressed with the SMK Victory cp2/Diana Chaser/Stinger Ares- whichever you prefer to call it! I've got a 25 yard range set up in my back garden and it's pretty much pinpoint accurate so I'm guessing it could go out even further- not bad for a co2 carbine!
The other outlier in my collection is what was known as the Umarex T4E HDX 68, although I believe they've changed the name to a slightly more 'family friendly' one now! I can only have the 16 joules version legally in my country but it's still a beast- darned near as heavy and as accurate to a real pump action body that you can get in this country.
I've got a Hawke red dot on the cp2 and an expensive Japanese prism dot on the Umarex- I bought it with the Umarex in a deal and having 16 68 calibre shots is, I believe, much more practical than the 6 shot revolver types.
If I lived in the US though I must admit I'd be tempted by the high joule Pistelle- those guns are sick!
Evening all,
Just thought I would share with the group.
Applied October 2025 for coterminous grant of FAC renewal of SGC.
Home visit from FEO 19th March 2026, licence issued 14th April 2026.
Hope that helps someone!
Picked up this beauty yesterday and just finished mounting the scope. I can't beleive it to be honest, I can't wait to get to the range.
How does everyone go about keeping their shooting records? Ive seen this app called Bolt and wondered if anyone used it or had any thoughts on it?
Hi everyone I'm looking for a replacement forend for my step dads auto 5 it split around the detent after use on Sunday. No one will ship from the US apart from Brownells but the reviews for their replacement forend are poor. Did find a file to 3D print one but due to legality issues no one will print it for me.
A toss up between a:
Beretta 12g 686 s (not steel proofed)
or for a similar price a Lincoln 12g no2 with sleeve, cartridge bag, about 150 cartridges, hide and pigeon decoying kit.
Obviously the Beretta is the better gun but with what I can get for the Lincoln and all it comes with, sort of split.
I'm a fairly casual shooter atm, clays sporadically and then a few rough pheasant drives in the year / clearing out vermin on friends family farm. I have a second hand lamber which is on the way out really so looking at getting a new main gun.
What are people's thoughts?
Afternoon,
There was a previous post lamenting the proposed rules for lead ammunition. It said that calibres of centre fire rifles exceeding .243 would need to be lead free. Obviously .243 is a popular varmint and even deer caliber - therefore I see this lead ban being overbearing.
However, airguns were exempt from this. Presumably since smaller .177 and .22 calibres in reality do not pollute nearly as much as a shotgun would - especially considering the game targeted with both guns (squirrel, pigeon and rabbits). Do you reckon that higher power airguns which are commonly used in the states would become more popular? Think triple digit ft/lb power airguns which would be allowed to remain using lead ammunition but are still capable of medium sized targets (fox, muntjac and Roe).
Secondary question, would forces be happy to issue licenses with higher powered airguns on them for the express purpose of larger animals such as deer.
This is just a thought I’m having whilst studying for my finals. Happy to have a conversation!
