Successful travel with severe nut allergy!
Today was my last day in Seoul and I wanted to make a post encouraging those who may be worried about traveling here with a nut allergy. I read so many comments on Reddit before my trip that had me really worried I wouldn’t be able to take part in eating at restaurants here, and was ready to survive off convenience store food if needed. But instead I had quite the opposite experience! I was able to eat at several local Korean restaurants without any issue; in fact, not a single one even used nuts in their kitchens. Moreover, I found it very easy to communicate and ask about my nut allergy everywhere. Most restaurants had English speaking staff, and in the rare times they didn’t, using a translate app worked perfectly well. I have a life threatening allergy, so I would know if i was exposed to even cross-contamination. Anyway, hope this is an encouragement to those who might be searching the sub about this. The only thing I did mostly avoid was desserts/pastries as many contain nuts (that said I ate a bakery just this morning!). Do your research, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t feel like you need to miss out on the amazing food in Korea! I will also happily share the names of some spots I ate if it’s helpful for those with nut allergies so that you have a few in your back pocket :)
