How many of you also have asthma/suspected asthma ?

Over the last year I’ve experienced breathlessness at times. I’ve been to the asthma nurse and she’s prescribed an inhaler. Then several months ago I experienced the crushing chest/ribs and a spasming feeling under my left lower ribs. Since then I’ve needed the inhaler more. Is there any correlation between this condition and asthma ?

What to do after social work practice

Been practising front line for near 15 years. I’m burnt out, developing chronic physical and anxiety issues. I want and need a change. I’ve worked in three different fields of social work and don’t think another front line role is what I need, at least for a while.

I feel stuck. If not social work, then what? All my qualifications are in social work.

Anyone any experience of this and what was your next path ?

Do we need OT? Play therapy? I’m at a loss

My wonderful, clever, outgoing 7yo boy really, REALLY struggles with his close social friendships. It’s so hard to explain. He thrives at home. If I take him to a play park where he knows nobody, he will quickly find friends to play with and have the best, genuine, connected time with them, sometimes for hours.

He is funny, social, and LOVES seeing his close friends. He is low support needs otherwise ..However, within seconds of seeing his best friends, he will be arguing, screaming, hitting himself, melting down because of (for example, at a play park):

- a friend didn’t answer his wuestion

- a friend sat with someone else

- a friend got to something before he did it

- a friend overtook him cycling

I know these sound like normal things for young kids to get annoyed about but I mean he LOSES it. It’s like he gets really excited to see his friends and it turns into jagged conflict that escalates exponentially almost immediately.

I’ve tried social stories, tried practicing social scenarios, tried being firm about acceptable behaviour.. I just don’t know what to do.

Because he’s so ‘high functioning’ overall, he is not obviously autistic at all, and I feel like I’m constantly cyclically soothing him from these insane meltdowns in public where he just looks to others like a really bratty child.

Would play therapy help? Amy suggestions? He got his ASD diagnosis last November and we’ve had zero since. Never an appointment with a pediatrician or anything. in the UK.

Why aren’t we more angry about Portobello? 💩

The sewage.

The E. coli

The absolute disgusting disgrace?

Our seaside town. The unbelievable crowds it attracts every year when the weather’s good. Yet the water, and therefore the sand… it’s putrid. Sewage incident after sewage incident.

How are we all just putting up with it?

Told I have one ligament left

Badly twisted my ankle a few weeks back. I’ve done it before so knew how to get it moving again. Last night I moved slightly weird and bang, felt like my whole ankle exploded. Excruciating. Woke up this morning and it had settled but I was worried and got the GP to look at it. As he was manipulating it, it crunched again and now my whole Achilles area is completely frozen and so sore. Doc says I likely have one ligament left. Why has my ankle now locked in this position? Why’s the Achilles and heel area so sore now when this wasn’t where the pain was ? I’m so done with this

Food recommendations Bristol

Coming to Bristol in a few weeks for a few days, gonna catch some bands and stay around Redcross Street.

It’s for my partner’s 40th. He loves all things a bit different, quirky, punk. Not showy/fancy. Loves a craft beer (🙄), vegan and non vegan food.

Any ‘must visit’s ?

ta :)

ps. no idea what th Bristol flairs are about 😆

6 year old cannot cope with losing

My gorgeous, intelligent, funny, friendly, articulate little autistic darling canNOT COPE with losing. Losing anything. A game, a competition, a race, anything.

we’ve practiced losing.

we’ve role modelled losing.

we’ve talked about it til we’re blue in the face, in so many ways.

we’ve even tried ignoring it.

we’ve tried minimising his exposure to ‘win and lose’ scenarios because it genuinely tips him into meltdown, it’s such a nervous system attack for him. But that’s not real life. He loves football - sometimes you’ll lose a game/at penalties etc. He’s been in martial arts for years, and whilst improving a bit with it in this environment - sometimes you don’t win. Sheltering isnt setting up for real life.

It’s actually now affecting his schooling now though. His meltdowns over this affect his class mates, affects his friendships etc.

I am worried that it’s going to start really affecting him socially and that others will start to laugh at him, exclude him etc. He’s a wonderful wee man, but this one aspect of how his autism affects him is so debilitating.

any guidance? tips? or reassurance that it gets better?

Large chest - venting

I’m in the first weeks of this condition and am learning what’s going to help me etc. Ive been off work for a couple weeks but need to return tomorrow.

I have exceptionally large boobs (JJ cup) and I’m sure their weight /underwired bras doesn’t bloody help this chest/rib pain either.

I‘ve been speaking with my GP about getting referred for a reduction for quite some time. I need to get my BMI down (which I have been doing), but it has now stagnated because of this pain.

What a shit cycle of events

Wondering if there’s anywhere quite open, flat, no cars that I can take my child to to let him gain confidence riding his bike? I know there’s loads of paths in the meadows but there are also lots of people, dogs etc and a big road around the edge of it in case he forgets his brakes !
