While I’m not a machinist, I’ve worked at several places that also did that. Including my current job. At my current job, that is the wordy coolant smell I’ve ever experienced. It’s nearly enough to make a billy goat puke.
No, the coolant never gets replaced, only added to. Yeah, I suspect that is the problem. I believe it’s Blaser, and it’s water based. But I also understand that coolant is hazardous waste, and costs a lot of money to get rid of, so shops tend not to. While none of our machines smell particularly pleasant, our newest machine is by far away the worst offender. It’s a machine that was bought at the tail end of last year. It gets used regularly, but not constantly. If it’s just sitting there idle, no smell. The second you turn it on though, holy shit. I believe there has been at least two people that have tried to figure this problem out, one of them being the guy who sells the coolant mix.

What is technically the correct course of action to deal with this issue?

My friend recently gave me a win generator, he had let it sit with gas in it for a year and a half. I bought a brand new OEM carb for it put it, on pulled the cord once, and it started right up and ran fine, made power.

I have briefly a few times since and the most recently I started it up before going to put it in the shed and this time when it started, it blinked the P overload light and acted funny. I shut it off and restarted it. It started fine, but then I plugged in my heat gun to exercise it and the motor revved way up and it stopped making power.

So currently that’s where it’s at. It will start fine, but when I take it off, choke it revs way up whether or not the echo mode is turned off or on.

Any suggestions?

What do we think about the brand XCMG? Specifically, a brand new 18 U mini excavator?

I actually have a deposit on a Ripa or 22 pro, but the manufacturer is not communicative to my dealer on when it will show up. In addition to that, I see a lot of unflattering stuff lately about them on the Facebook pages. I have a purchase and sales agreement for $24,000 in this machine.

Seeing as how I’m tired of waiting, I went and looked at a few others today one being an XC, MG, 18 U. Very nice machine seems like a step up from the Rippa. The dealer is more of a dealer, with a lot of machines around an actual shop, sales office, and at least two guys who do on site repairs. in addition to that, the warranty is 10 times more beefy than Rippa’s.

To get into this machine would bump me up another $3000, and put me down one machine, size engine, size and open cab versus closed cab with AC and heat.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Seller says this generator won’t start due to no spark. Generator looks barely used.

Are all parts readily available? I’m thinking the coil, which seems to be available, at about 50 bucks.

Any other tidbits on this machine? I know it’s worth several thousand in running condition. Buyer wants 200 as is.
