Enormous increase in FPS

Enormous increase in FPS

I recently upgraded my PC’s power supply unit from a 650watt supply to a 1250 watt supply because I was fairly certain that issues I was having with getting my VR set working were tied to having basically zero excess power to work with after powering the other pc components.

I then went looking for VR optimization guides and came across this guide.

After following the guide and messing about with my in game graphic settings to get VR stable and usable, which it’s almost there, I found that the FPS I was getting in normal 2D games had almost doubled from 80-100 with most settings maxed to an incredibly stable 140-145fps with the same settings. Note that I am not using frame generation and DLSS 4.5 is on with up scaling set to native. Basically all settings are maxed except for ray tracing which I’ve left off.

I am no computer expert so I cannot say which settings that were changed suddenly allowed my performance to double but my intuition is telling me that it was the changes to graphics settings in the Nvidia control panel (my system was already using the Resizable BAR thing, don’t ask me what that is).

If you have an Nvidia GPU and want more FPS, try to follow this guide regardless of if you’re using VR or not, and let us know if your game visuals and performance improves.

And if you’re more pc literate than I and can point out which settings change(s) made such a difference, please let us know!

VKB Force Feedback Base

Hey VKB, I would love to upgrade my flight stick and base soon and am looking at all the force feedback options available but would really like to stick with VKB as I really appreciate the customer service I’ve gotten but I can only hold out for so long.

Without giving away any critical information that could get you in trouble, how much longer do you think I should try to wait before VKB might make some sort of announcement about something relevant.

Like can you make an announcement about a future announcement where FFB might be announced? If not, fell free to denounce me.

How to make bombers more than just RP/SL Pinatas

We all know that bombers are in a pretty sorry state right now since they have no real effect on the battle in air rb and are so easily brought down.

This is in part due to HE shells causing much more damage to aircraft than they did in the early years of War Thunder (remember the days of Berlin trying to climb as the Germans as fast as possible to intercept the horde of B17's and B24's coming to nuke your airfield after the bases were taken out? Peppridge farm remembers..) and this is necessarily inaccurate to how well an aircraft would withstand high explosive cannon rounds (the singular .50 cutting off your tail doesn't count) but it becomes a real issue when players have mouse aim that allows them to fire accurate shots from a km or more when in reality, that wouldn't have done much more than waste their ammunition.

The other major factor in the lack of bomber survivability is that they're almost always singular targets when in reality, they'd have been in a formation to provide each aircraft many more guns to defend against individual attackers from each aircraft in the formation. Getting players to work together in War Thunder though is next to impossible so I propose we do the next best thing and bake it into the game by giving each bomber player an AI wingman (I think one is plenty).

Fortunately, War Thunder already has the game mechanic built and in the game as can be seen by the screenshot I took from one of the few singleplayer scenarios available for bombers/attack aircraft.

Other flight sims have done this throughout the years (Warbirds and Aces High come to mind) and while this mechanic doesn't magically solve the problem of bombers being inherently vulnerable to fighters and interceptor aircraft, it does make it a lot more of a risk for one player to take on a bomber player or several bomber players because allied bombers flying near each other suddenly makes your defenses a lot more potent.

This small change on its own would make bombers much more interesting to play but there is one more change I would propose to make using bombers less frustrating to use. Afterall, it's really annoying to fly a lumbering aircraft across the battlefield for 10 minutes only to get swatted from the sky in a single pass from the first player with cannons that is able to climb above you or get in front of you. That one more change I propose would be to have the player take control of the wingman's aircraft if the lead aircraft is shot down.

The mechanic (both) would be limited to air battles or Escalation (if it ever gets playable ground units) and would be available for aircraft on a case by case basis (your B-57's and IL28's don't need wingmen to be effective imo) and be phased out entirely at or immediately after aircraft like the Tu-95 and B-52).

I wouldn't include it for air sim battles unless the aiming mechanics for the gunners is reworked as it's already far easier for bombers to defend themselves thanks to the inherent difficulty of aiming forward mounted guns with full-real controls while bomber players get to use mouse aim and the same 3rd person camera view to control their defensive guns.

In regard to the economy effects, I would say that the total SL repair cost of both aircraft combined shouldn't change as they're still extremely vulnerable attacking aircraft and are already stupid expensive to repair and have mediocre rewards, even with the added cover of another set of turrets for defense. A player should be able to choose to fly alone or with the AI wingman for a negligible SL fee or get a bonus for flying solo if they wished to (maybe you're trying to be a sneaky snek and don't want the AI to give your position away by flying too high or something, idk), I also wouldn't decrease the amount of points a player gets for shooting a bomber down. It would be more difficult to take down one, let alone both, since one player would effectively be flying both bombers (they'd still only control one set of defensive guns at a time). These economy details can be changed around as needed.

These game mechanics wouldn't "solve" the issue of bombers not having a huge impact on your typical air rb match but it would make them much more fun and immersive to play with. Bombers should be more than just easy targets and SL/RP Pinatas for the enemy.

TLDR: You actually did read it all and I'm proud of you. So what do you think? Can we give these aircraft a lifeline and make them more usable again or let them go unused and unappreciated for how important they were?

Imagine a Dying Light-type of game only with dinosaurs instead of zombies

Please Techland.. I need this. Dinocrisis 1 and 2 are old enough to drink now, the world needs more dinosaurs and an open world game where players have to deal with dinosaurs would be fuckin epic.

The games do not have enough dinosaurs. Needs fixing.

That is all.

What did you upgrade to from the VKB Gladiator NXT and what would you have done differently?

I’ve had the Gladiator SCE (premium) for several years now and can’t speak highly enough about the quality, value for the money, and VKB’s customer service (seriously, you guys are great please don’t change).

That said, I play a lot and I’ve got some heavily used buttons that are needing more and more pressure to register inputs so they’ll need to be replaced and/or their connections shored up. I’m sure they can be it’s just at matter of taking the time to research it and do it which I will eventually but even if this is an easy process, I’m finding that my hands hurt more and more and would like to find a stick that fits my hand better without sacrificing a lot of buttons or quality.

I recently bought a Moza AB6 off Amazon but ended up returning it because the stick wasn’t very comfortable to hold and the FFB didn’t convince me it was worth the 500+ dollar cost of itself, a new mount for my throttle, and possibly a new chair (the chair likely pushing that number probably over 700$) —neither of which I’d need to buy with desktop setups.

I’ve been considering the VKB MCG with the Gunfighter mkIV base but am also intrigued by the Virpil CDT Aeromax since it looks to have similar levels of smoothness from its base and the stick is metal and comes in at like half the price of the MCG Ultimate.

What kind of upgrade path would you choose if you were in my shoes (STECS throttle, VKB gladiator with twist for rudder, and track IR 5)?

What would you have done differently when going into that more enthusiast flight stick market?

What do you wish you knew then that you know now?

**just a note that I do live in the US so shipping and tariff costs are a factor for me if it has to come from Asia or Europe.

Constant hotas disconnects

Created a bug report for an issue I've been having for months where my VKB STECS and Gladiator NXT are disconnecting and reconnecting constantly in the game. It causes a lot of issues since the game resets every axis I have bound to the devices to their neutral states.

It's not my hardware as I experience no issues with other games and have tested the devices with another computer on a different game without problems. My main computer never detects the devices losing their connections and I never see the lights on either device flickering as if they were losing power or their connection momentarily. It's purely an issue with War Thunder.

If you've had this problem and or just want to help us get an issue addressed, please follow the link and click on the "I have this issue" button and leave a comment with the kind of hardware you're experiencing the issue with.

Fun AV8B skirmish

Had a nice fight with the AV8B that I thought I'd upload. Apologies for the lack of sound, I'm not sure how to get Steam to record it and the video.

While I still think the AV8B took some kind of shadow nerf to the flight model at some point during the last year or so, it still lets you get away with some fights it has no business winning. Sure wish it had a working gunsight though

I don’t understand Gaijin’s blatant disrespect for SB players

In case you’ve overlooked things, Gaijin hasn’t updated sim battles or given air sb players a new map in over 5 years. FIVE years… wait no, I forgot the continued nerfs to the air sb economy over the years.

Your first reaction to reading this might be “so what, nobody plays sim” and I’d argue that the playerbase of sim battles is comparable to the playerbase that plays naval and yet naval is given updates nearly every patch while sim is hardly even mentioned unless it’s to say that they’re excluding air sb from some event or system that would have benefitted them.

The latest blatant example is excluding us from getting maneuver kills despite flying in sim being one of the most difficult things in the game to master.

In lower tiers there are very few hand holding features to keep you alive; there are no flight stability systems to prevent players from stalling and snap rolling into the ground in a panic, no systems to allow you to easily identify friend from foe in a chaotic furball or at a distance, no easy button to visually track aircraft as you and they maneuver.

It can take years of practice to fly with confidence and even the pros will crash. To get to that point, they’ve crashed hundreds maybe thousands of times. And these are the players who *are not* intentionally nosing down into the ground or J-ing out to spite other players. That spite? It’s an epidemic that’s metastasized for years in air sim battles by the same people that ruined the sim economy and now that it’s spread to other game modes, those *other* game modes get the system to counter spiteful gameplay and reward those who have fought others into the ground ..

But not SB players.

We still have AI that spawn and fly into the same mountains every 60 seconds and have for years.

We still have AI flying/driving the wrong aircraft/vehicles for the teams they’re on (which is great fun when you don't get nameplates or map markers for aircraft).

We still have capture points that despawn despite the capture progress being over 90%

We still have AI aircraft that fly at Mach 3 despite being non afterburning while others simply teleport a km or two every other second.

We still have aircraft carriers that players will clip through to fall in the ocean when spawning.

~~~~~~
I could go on for the next hour just listing simulator battle problems—EASILY SOLVABLE PROBLEMS —that have gone unaddressed in air sb for fucking YEARS.
It’s so goddamn annoying to be so consistently neglected and screwed over by the devs when the absolute minimum amount of effort would make the game mode so much better.
Air simulator battles is already the best mode the game has, held back only by the learning curve and the time people have available to actually take on that challenge.
We can see by Nuclear Thunder event that Gaijin is not entirely blind to how successful the longer battle, infinite respawn, and PvPvE formula is and despite that mode’s flaws, the community’s response was overwhelmingly positive.
So why.. why do they still give air simulator players the middle finger?
Oh and you’ll utterly be shocked to hear that they never approved of or published my comment on the dev blog asking why they excluded simulator battles from the maneuver kill system.
Just one more irony of the Republican platform
The irony of the hyper capitalist anti-communist views of American society which allowed its corporate leaders laying off several hundred thousand (probably millions of) American workers and shipping their jobs to the communist country that now has us by the balls while the people who made and profited from those decisions have been shoving theirs in children’s faces and trafficking women for decades with zero consequences.
These people who sold our country’s future to China are now unfathomably wealthy and yet they’re protected from taxation by those who think they’re being patriotic and are fighting *against* communism. Those who have arguably hurt America and benefitted China the most are now defended by the most ardently “patriotic” and anti-communistic people in the country.
These billionaires and millionaires actively strengthen China’s and now Russia’s hand while consistently weakening our own by supporting the party and politicians who’ve now started a new war they could not conceivably win. Everyone that studied Iran for *any* amount of time knew that if they felt their grip on power was truly threatened they would choke off the strait of Hormuz. The war has almost exclusively benefitted the Russian state with a huge increased in the price of oil thereby giving their government the funds to continue buying weapons to use against Ukraine.
While China feels more negative effects from the war; the missiles, planes, radars, international relationships, and ultimately the lives we’ve wasted are all crucial in any defense of Taiwan or Europe from—wait for it— actual communists.
But it’s fine because taxing billionaires and having healthcare is socialism or something.
If you got this far, thanks for reading my rant which I could have made so.. so much longer but TL:DR Just read it, you’re just pooping, what’s it matter if it takes you an extra minute?
