Hey Nashville! Have you had a good weekend?

After a difficult work week, Saturday was running errands, taking my wife for her mammogram at VUMC, and cooking ribs. Today has been watching old movies (The Little Foxes, 1941), watching my wife create a diaper cake for a friend, watching the Titans (ha ha), and reading.

How has your weekend been? GREAT I hope!

Tracking Metro Council Votes

Happy Saturday evening all,

I want to start tracking the votes of certain members on the Metro Council, but this information is not easily discovered. Does anyone have a suggestion where to find the votes for Council members?

Thank you!

NES confirms Brent Baker no longer serving as COO following winter storm response review

In the debacle of NES's poor response to the winter storm, many hoped that CEO Teresa Broyles-Aplin would lose her job. It appears that Chief Operating Officer Brent Baker is taking the fall.

Interestingly, the story states that, "NES confirmed that Baker has transitioned to an advisory role, reporting to CEO Teresa Broyles-Aplin." So exactly what is an "advisory role?" If Baker was not good enough to remain as COO, why make him an advisor? Is this a paid position? He's still reporting to the CEO.

Getting rid of the COO "on paper" who will remain and the CEO is shielded doesn't past the smell test.

Hidden cameras capture questionable claims in push to end racing at the Nashville Fairgrounds Opponents of racing at the Nashville Fairgrounds are accused of using misleading statements about demolition and affordable housing to collect signatures.

So whatever you think of the racetrack issue, this from WTVF is a great commentary. Additionally, to go against the racetrack does NOT mean that affordable housing is guaranteed.

Please remember who started all of this, John Ingram, who already has more money than he needs and wants to expand the soccer stadium.

MAKE INFORMED CHOICES!

New NES Communication Officer - https://www.nashvillepost.com/business/nes-taps-former-lee-staffer-as-chief-communications-officer/article_ee68d10b-1d43-4fa0-8302-8fd007ea87d7.html

Pasting some of the article here because you might not make it through the Nashville Post blocker:

Nashville Electric Service has named Laine Arnold, former communications director for Gov. Bill Lee, as the utility provider’s first-ever chief communications officer.

The hiring of Arnold comes as NES continues to face backlash for its response and communications during Winter Storm Fern.

An independent review released in June noted shortfalls in NES’ response, including that the company failed to prioritize customer information and communication during the early stages of its restoration efforts, the report notes.

During prior weather events, NES had not previously communicated estimated times of restoration after power outages. While the utility developed an estimated restoration time communication system seven days into its response efforts, the report says the late action limited the system's value.

NES said in a press release that Arnold joins the company as it implements its “four pillars” initiative, which launched amid scrutiny over the provider’s storm response. The pillars include: formalizing emergency management leadership, reconciling gaps in customer communication, addressing estimated time of restoration and assessing how to underground more electric lines while more effectively maintaining above-ground lines.

“Laine is a respected communicator who has worked across highly-regulated industries and understands both the challenges and opportunities facing utilities,” NES CEO Teresa Broyles-Aplin said in the release.

“I believe her tested leadership is core to operationalizing all the improvements we have made under the four pillars to serve our customers well.”

Arnold worked with Lee during both of his gubernatorial campaigns and served in his cabinet as communications director during his first term as governor.

Arnold is a founding partner of Nashville-based public affairs firm BHA Strategy, for which she leads the strategic and crisis communications practice. She first began assisting NES with its communications earlier this year, and will officially join the company in mid-July. Her role will include internal and external communication as well as working with customer service, economic development, community and government relations, and the NES Electric Power Board.

hubNashville is GREAT!

There is an intersection near me that has overgrown on both sides and you take your life into your own hands to pull out. There was a traffic death there a few years ago. I submitted a request to hubNashville and they did an EXCELLENT job of clearing out the problem.

Check them out: https://hub.nashville.gov/s/?language=en_US

Disable Samsung TV Plus

I HATE Samsung TV Plus and will NEVER buy Samsung again because of this feature. No matter what option I choose, I am not able to turn it off. When trying to eliminate the app, I am not offered a "remove" option when choosing the app and pushing the middle button. I have turned off all autorun functions, but the TV continues to start with TV Plus. This is on both TVs: UN65NU740D and UNU7400.

Has anyone else had any success getting rid of this?

Thanks!

Peacock Premium Plus

I get Peacock Premium free, but what is the cost if I want to upgrade to Premium Plus? It seems Plus should not be full price since Premium is free.
