Generic IS heraldic Wip

Currently I am working on a heavy lance with generic IS blue and white colors.

I thought I might share some of the process wirh you.

This far I panel highlighted the minis like a fancy armor model builder with my airbrush. After this step there will be a step with paneliner / Oilwash and then edge highligts and of course weapons/ sensors and cockpits.

What do you think abou dark orange for the cockpits?

Pink Pirates Raid Force

Some minis I painted for my first AS Game.

The Pink Pirats want to be seen and strike fear in the hearts of their victims with their flamboyant color.

I though about a group with a lot of old and cheap Mechs and a lot of weak but fast wheeled tanks. Afterwards I found out, that fielding that much fast and cheap vehicle can be considered an unfair roster. But honestly I built it for the joke of beeing a force that can't even afford proper Battlemechs.

I went with round bases, because I like them more and will only play Alpha Strike and Horizon Wars anyways.

My Delta Galaxy Jade Falcons

They had already their first encounter in a game of Alpha Strike against some periphery defense forces.

I put them on round bases because I like it more this way and do not plan to play BT classic.

It´s all about backstabbry? Or: What kind of meta does Alpha Strike run on?

When I found out that Battletech has a non-hexfeld offspring it was immediately clear to me that I have to play this Game. I played the Mechwarrior games since the early 2000s and other mechbased combined arms games like "Horizon Wars". So I expected a rather streamlined game compared to classic Battletech, which allows me to play with all my 6mm tanks, infantry and Mechs. The game is great in this regard and I love the readily available Unit-Cards.

This far I had two games which both were a great lot of fun against two different opponents. In both games the scenario represented the holding of three critical points on the Map. Both games lead to an unexpected conclusion about the games Meta, unexpectetd at least for me. The Game does favor ofensive playstyles while defensive playstyle gets the short end of the stick.

First you never want to stand still because you want to get a TMM. Just run in circles or only one inch. If there are a lot of light vehicles and a strategic point to hold than rotate them. No matter what you have to move constantly, ideally from cover to cover.

Watch your Back, or rather the back of your opponent. Especially if there are a lot of light and fast elements the situation keeps occurring that a line of backstabbing rear attacks forms. This chain of death links up when a first mech moves. Second mech can reach its rear, but then a third mech is moved in the rear of the second mech.

There are just no relevant defensive mechanics. Sure an element can “dig in” or stand still for -1 on the roll. But the games mechanic does not only not have an “ambush” order or a “reaction” action. It does prohibit such mechanics due to the move all alternating and only then shoot framework of the turns.

Which brings me to my last point of my short analysis: The sequence of shooting does not matter at all, because every damage applies only at the end of the turn. There is no benefit from having the initiative and archiving a crucial kill, before an important asset of the enemy can activate. Therefore, the highest strategic advantage one can aim for in movement activation is to go for the enemies rear with light mechs or fast vehicle. So both player try to activate your highly mobile forces as late as possible. A fact that leads to the forementioned chains of death.

So all in all I would argue, that this is a fun Game with a gaming mechanic that leads to the conclusion that waging war with giant robots is all about constant advancing and getting in the enemies soft spot. This is not too bad at all, but somehow the games rules feels somehow shallow in some regards.

Do you agree with my assessment?

What is this helmet cover? Is it real?

This Picture was seen on social media in the last weeks. With some remarks about changes on the battlefield with drones etc.

But is this helmet neck and front protection even real? And if so is it more than just a prototype or some airsoft gear? I would really like to know more.

It does not look very practical in terms of added weight and the weares head movement. And Iam in serious doubt about its protective value.
