Am I overreacting to my doctor giving my friend better medical advice?

Okay, I’ll start this off by saying, I do feel justified in being royally pissed off by this but others are telling me I’m being silly so.

My best friend and I see the same doctor. He’s a family nurse practitioner, and he’s kinda new in some capacity? I’m not entirely sure the semantics I just know he has someone overseeing him and that’s why it takes forever to get my labs back.

Anyway, I’ve been suffering with migraines for along time. I, however, wasn’t aware I was suffering with migraines. I rarely got the classic symptoms, like nausea, light sensitivity, etc. I just assumed I had really bad headaches, and just push one. Really that’s just how my family was too, I came into contact with cocaine as an infant so most of the time whatever I was feeling was chalked up to either that or just being a crybaby with my family. (Ironically I have a low pain tolerance to external pain, but my appendix could rupture and I’d be like “oh this is mildly uncomfortable.”)

The reason I figure out migraines was when I went to a sleep study doctor for sleep apnea. I mentioned my headaches could feel like an ice pick being driving into my skull, so I just tell folks I get “Ice pick headaches.” He’s like “Okay so that’s a migraine.” And it was like, a curtain opening up. It made a ton of sense. Shortly after that, I had a hymenectomy surgery, and it was a whirlwind of appointments and I hadn’t been able to chat with my doctor about migraines yet. During the recovery of my hymenectomy, I had a six day straight migraine. I kept in contact with the hospital to ensure I didn’t have to go to the ER and made an appointment with my doctor.

He was gonna give me a migraine pill he took for his own migraines, and I was ecstatic. Until I saw the price at the pharmacy, which was nearly $200 with my insurance. I turned it down, informed my doctor I wasn’t able to afford it and he prescribed a high strength naproxen instead. I struggled with it, but I thought it was the best I could do given my circumstances so I didn’t raise a big stink. Just kept pushing like I always do

Only to find out from my best friend that he prescribed the same medication for her migraines, and he informed her that she could go straight to the manufacturer and get them cheaper. We were at the state fair, and she had to take a pill bc of the lights and was just bragging over how amazing it was and how fast acting and it took so so so much to hold my tongue. When I told her that I didn’t get that information she was like “Oh. Huh that’s weird.” And shrugged it off. My dad told me that I was overreacting and that he was sure my doctor just forgot to tell me during both appointments and that I should just call back and get the prescription reinstated. And maybe I am overreacting? Maybe I just didn’t explain my pain well enough, I don’t know really. I just know it left a seriously bad taste in my mouth.

88 Korean BBQ

Does anyone know when the Korean BBQ place is gonna open in the old chili’s location? I saw on tiktok that it’s set to open this Friday I think, but I can’t find anything online for that to confirm. I live in Van, so I don’t get to hear the local rumblings in town lol. Does anyone know for a fact?

Any cozy games around Japanese shrines?

I’ve been playing a lot of farming sim games, and really only have a Nintendo switch to play games on. I’ve been watching cute romance animes centered around shrines and myths (like Kamisama kiss and kakuriyo: bed and breakfast for spirits) and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of similar games? I love playing animal crossing, harvest moon/story of seasons, etc so anything similar will be up my alley!!

I also found a game a while back called Sakuna: of rice and ruin which has a very similar vibe to what I’m looking for but I don’t know if that counts as a cozy game

How to ask the right questions?

Okay this may have been asked before, and if it has please let me know! I’m still in the diagnosing process (I’ve posted a time or two how nothing ever comes out of it and the wait is hard lol) but lately my issues have been getting worse. I had a few breathing attacks (not really asthma but idk what they were) and usually my doctors are really thorough in explaining stuff so I never have to ask. So when I went in to get my PFT results, my pulmonologist said that the only strange number was my TLC (total lung capacity) and it was 73%. He said it wasn’t enough to cause my issues and just left it there. I expected him to say more, but he didn’t and I wasn’t really sure what questions to ask. I felt like I was back in school and having to teach myself to study for the first time but had no idea where to start. (Gifted kid in my younger years and average in high school)

The only thing I could think to ask was if allergies caused it, and got a maybe. My friends all tell me that I should ask more questions, but I don’t even know where to begin? Like with my PCP, I sometimes don’t know how to explain all my symptoms or ask what may be the cause of what. Like I have some labs that stay at the barely normal range (like 25 when normal is 26 or smth) and I don’t really know how to ask of I should worry about it or not. So what’s a good way to talk to a doctor and ask questions? I try and keep a symptom journal, but it can be a bit hard bc I work a blue collar job and I’m exhausted by the end of the day I forgot what symptom I had. I think I might have lupus or smth similar, but I also don’t know how to approach taht with my doctor without sounding like I’m self-diagnosing.

A good way to help divine where to move?

This might sound silly, but I’ve been wanting to move from my house for a long time. I live with my grandparents, and being their caretaker is really taking a toll on me. The only issue is I can think of a million places to move bug have a hard time narrowing it down. Is there a way to maybe divine it without having to play 20 questions with a pendulum? I write down the pros and cons to everything, and it’s making my head all scrambled and making a decision hard lol

Unisex names for kitten? Unsure of gender yet.

The baby is really squirmy so it’s hard to get a really good picture. I’m fairly certain this is a girl, but the baby is still too young to tell. The momma is a cat we found last year actually, she and her siblings were in a boat my dad was fixing for a client with their mom. The boat kitty family are all named after mythical characters. Juno was the mom of them all, then the litter was Diana, Dio and Mercury.

Diana is the mom of this little kitten, and I’m not sure if I wanna stick with the myths theme or try something else. I’m open to all kinds of suggestions!

Carpal tunnel tips?

I’ve been having a lot of pain in my hands, my PCP and I suspected carpal tunnel and it room a long time to get an EMG test. The EMG showed up normal, as far as nerve damage goes (which I suppose is good lol) but they did say that I may be having early onset carpal tunnel. I’ve been doing the preventive measure for carpal tunnel, and the doctors can’t do anything else until there is actual nerve damage, but the pain hasn’t subsided.

Normally it’s not so much of an issue, the braces and splints help a lot, but I can’t really do any of my hobbies anymore. I love to draw, sew, embroider and recently I picked up wood carving. Unfortunately they make my hands hurt like crazy. Is there anything else I can do? The exercises help, but not after I try and do any hobbies they don’t help very much at all.

Edit: after speaking with my grandfather again this morning (I made another mistake he needed to know about) I’ve come to the conclusion that I may be overreacting. He wouldn’t be so stressed and angry if I was doing as I was meant to do, and I can’t fault him for the way he’s acting when a majority of it is my fault. He’s been selfless with me, and I’ve made some selfish choices and mistakes. Thank you for listening to me anyway.

I just turned 25 years old, and my entire life I’ve been around my grandparents. They raised me when my mother lost custody of me, I love them more than anything and I know they love me as well. I call them my mom and dad, because they are my mom and dad. They’ve always had their own business, and when I graduated high school I started being my grandfather with the business since my grandma’s health was declining.

It wasn’t until I started working with him I saw a different side. He would explode over mistakes, Eve just little ones. I remember once we were painting custom rain gauges that we made. It was my first time ever spray painting anything and I kept getting runs in the paint. I forget how many I messed up, but when my granddad’s patience ran out his temper exploded. He used one rain gauge (they were on rebar stakes so they could be put in the ground) to hit the rain gauge I messed up on and sent it flying. He cursed and yelled, storming off for a bit before barely calming down and angrily showing me how to do it again. We do metal fabrication, CNC plasma. If I messed up on a pattern, or cut metal wrong, sometimes he would be calm and sometimes he would have those bouts of explosion again. Throwing things is what he does the most. He only threw something at me once, and it didn’t hurt but it was still scary.

I’ve been working with him since I was 18 or maybe 18. Seven years is what I know best. In seven years I’ve gotten more scared of the man that I love and adore and I don’t know how to feel about it. I know he loves me, more than anything, but he scares me a lot. It got worse after my grandma had a stroke, then she got breast cancer, she’s broken both her legs (not at once on separate occasions) and I know that’s stressing him out and he just.. blows up. He’s a fairly healthy man, so he can do the rough work and heavy lifting I can’t do but sometimes I get scared to ask for help on bad days.

Now, I’m not entirely innocent I know. There have been occasions where I lied to him because I was scared of his reaction. When I flunked out of college, and most recently about money. I help keep tabs on our money in the business, and three times I’ve lied about the amount we have bc I knew we were a bit lower than he wanted, and it wasn’t even my fault. I wasn’t stealing money, it was just going to bills or material for the business. I shouldn’t have been scared but I still was and it just blows up on my face. He says I act a lot like my mother (she was a former drug addict) and he said that he wonders if I’ll end up just like her. I know I shouldn’t have lied. I should’ve been honest, and it was more than one occasion but I just get so scared. He always gets so mad, threatens to kick me out or have me get a job somewhere else, and today he was petting the dog saying how much the dog loved him and that “at least someone does” and that hurt so much.. because I do love my grandfather. So much it hurts, so much I sacrifice my body and youth for his business so it doesn’t go under. But.. he said because I was willing to lie and break the trust and bond between us then I don’t really care at all. That I don’t appreciate all he sacrificed for me as a child, how he and my grandmother took me out of a bad situation and I just take it for granted.

My friend says that he’s abusive, even if he doesn’t fully realize it, and that I shouldn’t take more fault than what I did but.. I just can’t help but feel like it’s all my fault. I would never consider my grandfather abusive, because he loves me more than life itself. His whole world revolves around me and my grandmother, and I keep messing up. I just.. I can’t tell if these are appropriate reactions for what’s going on. I mean.. he has always had a temper. I’m just.. confused and lost I guess. Especially when I feel at fault.
