Retro PCs - what to do?

Hi all! I have this old 486 clone pc, an old win 98 machine, couple other old PC’s.

I’ve held onto them for nostalgia more than anything. I can’t figure out what to do with them.

None of them are a great version of their era’s hardware. They function no problem, but I can’t think of anything would actually use these for. I was thinking about sprucing them up a bit for sale - but I can’t find anyone who want to buy old tech near me (Victoria BC Canada).

How do draw the line between what is genuine garbage vs worth saving?

Three Canadian settlement deadlines coming up in September and October

Disclosure: I run ClaimNorth.ca. Here are three upcoming deadlines that may be worth checking:

• SouthGobi securities settlement — September 15, 2026. Investors should check the official eligibility requirements and covered transactions: https://southgobiclassactionsettlement.ca/en/help

• Nova Scotia Schools for the Deaf settlement — September 21, 2026. This concerns eligible former students of the Halifax School for the Deaf and the Interprovincial School for the Education of the Deaf in Amherst. The official FAQ explains who is included: https://www.nsdeafschoolsclassaction.com/frequently-asked-questions.aspx

• Silk and Great Value plant-based beverages settlement — October 16, 2026. Eligibility and supporting-document requirements are on the official website: https://plantbeverages-settlement.com/en

A deadline alone does not establish eligibility—please read the official requirements before submitting anything.

I also maintain https://www.claimnorth.ca/ as a free Canadian settlement finder linking to official administrators. ClaimNorth does not submit claims on your behalf.

Claimnorth.ca for Canadian Claims

I built ClaimNorth.ca is a free settlement finder built for Canadians who might otherwise miss money they are eligible to claim.

It tracks currently open Canadian settlements, deadlines and eligibility information, then links directly to the official claim administrator. It does not charge users or submit claims on anyone’s behalf.

I keep it up to date. All hosted and info kept in Canada.

Left arm working mostly

I had posted this board a few weeks ago and have since restored most of my fine motor control.

I have Geebon station I’m running it a 310.

Just using the cheap 0.8mm solder I got (no name Chinese brand, not sure if it’s leaded) and Eoopee flux from Ali Express.

This board came missing half the components. I have some others to practice on. I know it’s rough. I’m happiest about getting used to how to handle the iron so the SMD components don’t jump onto the iron. Not perfect at it yet, but much better.
