Why are loaches like this
My big guy, Larry. (Larry the loach lol) I found him buried in sand one day. He’s about 7 inches long. This morning i found Baby Larry also buried in the sand. (About 2 inches long) 😅 such silly little guys.

I posted a few days ago about my husband literally being handed a chameleon in a shoe box. A child size shoe box at that. We now have a proper enclosure for him. It’s a bit small but we plan to upgrade. For now it’s what we can do given the circumstances. He is such a happy guy ! He adores being help and loves sitting on shoulders or in hair. He’s basically babied by my husband and mother in law.
His name is Charles. He’s eating very very well, live crickets and live mealworms with some reptile powder sprinkled on top with their necessary vitamins. Right now he has a real stick from our yard that he climbs to the top and sits under one of his 2 lights. (I forget the specific names of everything)
Basically to sum it all up, he fell into some good hands and we are willing to do anything for him to live out his life.
I know he needs more hiding spaces and everything, it’s literally a work in progress. He has live moss in the bottom and one large live plant. We are doing our best ! He seems genuinely happy and we’re so happy to have him as part of our family
Quite literally. My husband was at a buddy’s house, who had another friend over. The friend had a shoebox with a chameleon. Asked my husband to take it. He didn’t know the guy was serious. But as my husband was leaving the buddy said “hey! Don’t forget the chameleon”
He absolutely loves being held. I currently have him in a tank with mesh lid out on my back porch (screened in) because I live in southwest Florida and it’s humid outside. I have absolutely nothing for the fella. I out some Galapagos island moss in the tank. (I know I need a mesh tall terrarium type set up) I added a large branch for him to climb, he’s eating mealworms and crickets, I got some reptile powder supplement ? That goes onto the bugs, I put a couple plants in there that I must for him to drink.
I get paid tomorrow but I need help on what to buy that’s absolutely essential. I can’t buy everything at once. I keep looking on Facebook marketplace for set ups.
Just please any advice is appreciated. Please don’t come at me for my husband taking him.
When he’s in his tank he stares at us and climbs his stick to reach out to us, he loves shoulders. The buddy who gave it to my husband said he’s been raised like that. I’ve named him Charles and want to give him a proper life.
We are capable of building/creating a proper home. We have 4 aquariums, one being 75 gallon that took a hell of a lot of money and time and patience. My mother in law has fallen in love with him, and he climbs her shoulder and sits in her head.
Also any advice where to buy the proper equipment for not to expensive is appreciated. Me and husband both have our car payments this week and I get paid bi weekly.
Thanks in advance 🥲
Side note. We are aware this is an advanced reptile to own. Also aware we’re probably gonna drop close to 1000$ if not more on this fella. We know. We are buying the start up essentials immediately. I’m just not sure what, hence asking for advice.
Me, my husband and mother in law know he will be a LOT of care and also know if he gets ill will need an exotic vet. We have plenty nearby. So please, be easy on me. Neither of us planned to obtain a chameleon. But I guess buddy said he would leave him outside if my husband didn’t take him. He was raised by humans and raised always being held. He will not poop on you. Only when put down. He’s plump so doesnt seem underfed at least. We have no clue his backstory, eating habits, his previous enclosure was briefly mentioned as a small aquarium tank and an animal carrier 😭
Update !!!
He has a proper enclosure now with a door lock ! Has necessary lights and everything. He is now in our home and doing wonderfully. His enclosure is a little small, but it has all his needs. Honestly he prefers to be hanging out in one of us humans.
He currently enjoys his large stick which we got from outside and likes chillin at the top of it by his light. (One of 2) I don’t remember the names of the lights but it was 2 that I read are necessary. My husband and mother in law are absolutely in love with him.
I’m glad he was put into our life. (: eventually his enclosure will upgrade and he will have even more room and plenty of live plants.
For now it’s live moss on the bottom and one big live plant, and a real tree branch from our woods. He loves crickets ! Like loves them more than anything. He’s going to be loved for the rest of his life.
Thank you everyone for the love and kindness and helpful comments about products and needs.
I know it’s almost impossible to tell, but these two love each other and have since day one. They follow each other, never chase, and generally just chill, and one is decently bugger than the other so just wondering if anyone had some guesses.
Also it’s nearly impossible to get pics because they always try and look at me and follow me
Cory Dora’s bring me so much joy, watching them soft all day long. They’re adorable. And always look like they’re judging you it side eyeing you. My happy lil weirdos.
Also don’t worry, tank upgrade coming soon. I was going to use a 29 gallon tank I have but think it’d be too big for my room, so going to buy a 20 gallon.
Some days are hard to get through. Life’s overwhelming. But what keeps me going is how cuddle and loving my fiance is. (I call him my husband at this point. )
We both have long work days and bust our butts to get by. But it’s times like this, when we’re laying in bed and he falls asleep on my lap, that I realize my life isn’t all that bad.
I’ve never had a man in my life be so damn cuddly and close to me before. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when he falls asleep on me.
To me it means he feels safe and content with me. As do I him.
Movie on, candle burning, flowers on the dresser. I need to appreciate these moments more.
Just had to brag for a moment.
I made my 10 gallon into a nice home (: I have corydoras and 2 betta fish. I somehow got some yoyo loaches with my corydoras 😅 I have a 29 gallon that is cycling to upgrade them all to. But I’m so happy with how this came out. The cloudiness is root tabs, I’m doing partial water changes every other day.
Before commenting, I know it’s overcrowded that’s why I have a 29 gallon cycling. Please don’t come at me. Tank is heated. Has filter and bio filter, they all eat equally, no one gets left behind. All seem happy and content and thriving. I just love how it looks. I also added floating red root floaters. And the betta loves it.
Edit: typo.
This lil guy is super tiny when I bought him at petsmart. They didn’t even know what fish he was, now it’s been a couple weeks and he’s finally getting personality. He didn’t eat for the first 3-4 days, but now eats bloodworms out of tong/tweezers and I cut up/crumble pellets for him. I also got a bottom feeder tube/dish thing that the pellets go into and he loves it. He’s in a grow out tank right now but eventually going into a 125 gallon with an albino bichir and 2 senegals. The albino was small when I got him but not as tiny as this lil dude.
Pics are current him, first day, and his soon to be albino brother
I’m just in love with bichirs. Started with 2 Senegal. Then saw an albino and instantly loved them. My husband surprised me with one. Then shopping at petco I saw a delhezi for the first time. Instant love again 🥰
I’ve always had betta fish for as long as I can remember. I had one in a 10 gallon that I put baby neon angelfish and a pleco, they were all in there about 6 months then I added some Cory’s. Angel fish were there to grow to move to my 20 gallon then to my 75. I got 4 panda and a random green was added lol. I went to another store and got another panda and 2 more green. (All they had) the 10 gallon tank got super sickly so I did an emergency transfer to a 5 gallon I had. I had to do it fast so it started with nothing but water, a heater and filter. A day and a halfof them in there with just water. Yesterday i added sand and planted it and they’re so so happy ! Gotta clean and cycle a 20gal to put them in. I just love jumps and them (:
Edit: a hell of a lot of typos. My bad for not re reading 🥴
