Just For Fun - Favorite Homebrew Rule

Just for fun, but going a little different direction: what is your favorite homebrew rule in your group or at your table? It can be something for preference, something for balance, something totally ridiculous just for the heck of it!

Expert System Robot Pricing

I see the table about paying for what type of expert system bot you want and the level of the expert system. How would you price it if you wanted a robot with multiple skills? Like if I wanted a security robot with shoot skill but also pilot skill, both at +1, would I just charge the cost of one robot for pilot and one for shoot and that’s the total cost?

What kind of cheese is Kunafa cheese?

If we had to take a guess which kind of real life cheese most closely resembles Kunafa cheese, what kind do you think it is?

Feedback Wanted: TL1, TL2 Heavy Weapons

Hey everyone, just trying to flesh out a list for some of my “primitive” worlds. First of all, let me know what you think of the gear I list here. Second of all, if you think of something I can add to the list, let’s hear it!

Catapult

Onager torsion type siege engine. It has poor accuracy but can be wheeled around or relatively quickly be set up and taken down. Slings stones or flaming pitch, either weighing between 10 to 45 kilograms, up to considerable ranges. Beyond effective range of 150 meters, it does 2d8 damage. Requires a minimum of three persons to operate. It can be set up and broken down for transport in an hour with four persons working together. It can be pivoted and repositioned for ten turns worth of effort. Reloading similarly takes 20 turns per shot. The hurled stones can break through basic structures and light fortifications. Sustained fire can weaken and eventually break through heavy stone fortifications over a period of days, depending on how sturdy the target is. When used against non stationary targets, it is considered clumsy and has a -4 to hit.

Damage: 3d6 / Range: 150/400 / Mag: 1 / Enc: * / Attribute: INT / TL: 1

Trebuchet

A large counterweight lever system siege engine. In comparison to a catapult, the trebuchet has greater range and power, but takes more effort in transporting and setting up. Furthermore, once set up, it is stationary and can’t be repositioned. The trebuchet hurls stones or loads 90 - 135 kilograms per shot, which easily smash through structures and break down heavy fortifications in significantly less time, though it may still take days of sieging. A trebuchet requires a minimum of five persons to properly operate. Due to larger scale of the weapon, it takes 10 minutes to reload and ready a shot. If the payload is hurled into a crowd, it suffers a -4 to hit nonstationary targets. With a shoot/wis or shoot/int skill check of 10 during setup, a trebuchet can be aimed to clear the shots over low fortifications or beyond the first line of defense in an army if it is within range.

Damage: 3d10 / Range: 250/500 / Mag: 1 / Enc: * / Attribute: INT / TL: 1

12-Pounder Black Powder Cannon

The mainstay of armies and seafaring navy vessels, these heavy weapons are much more portable and versatile than their stone flinging predecessors. In particular, a 12-pounder cannon needs a minimum of two people to operate. Reloading takes 10 rounds per shot. Total repositioning of a cannon only needs about 10 rounds, but small adjustments to aim are done on turn, eliminating the clumsy penalty against mobile foot targets. A basic shot can break down light structures and will breach heavy stone fortifications with just a day or so of sustained fire. Black powder cannons are needy contraptions and require regularly swabbing and upkeep after every battle and whenever exposed to the elements. Without it, they will quickly deteriorate until unusable, becoming faulty even just a couple days after a skipped maintenance period. A faulty cannon has a 1 in 3 chance of misfiring and hurting the operating crew or being unable to fire at all. Skipping the maintenance period a second time renders the cannon inoperable until repaired with an extensive amount of time and a successful fix skill check. Lastly, different ammunition types are available. Grapeshot applies a suppressive fire effect to the shot. Chain shot deals increased vehicle damage, particularly against enemy seafaring vessels, but suffers a -4 against personnel.

Damage: 3d6# (suppression available for grape shot) / Range: 500/2000 / Mag: 1 / Enc: * / Attribute: INT/WIS / TL: 2

EDIT: changed Attribute types to INT. Lowered trebuchet and catapult damage to prevent power creep. Coming up, I’m considering the Battering Ram (TL1, although this technically may classify as a vehicle?), and the Ballista (TL1). Again, if you have your own ideas or feedback, please feel free to post!

Just For Fun - Favorite Planet

Just for fun: what’s your favorite planet you have created/visited so far? You can include the planet tags, name, temperature or whatever other details made it so memorable, but it’s got to be a planet! No space stations, shattered remains, or mysterious hot rocks that people decided to colonize because there was nothing better 🫣

A study in HP

In SWN, HP damage, quote, “doesn’t always mean a direct physical hit. A flurry of strokes that force an enemy off-balance, graze him, frighten him, or exhaust him might all drain his hit points, bringing him closer to defeat without actually inflicting real physical harm. Only the last handful of hit points reflect serious bodily damage. It’s up to the GM and player to decide how to describe the effects of a successful hit.”

This has led to some strange-isms. What if the damage is something that certainly hits, like fall damage or fire? What if a player chooses to take a blow knowing they have enough HP to tank it, like holding a pair of grenades and throwing themselves into a crowd?

Just curious what others think about this and how they handle it

EDIT: I’ve already got a system for this. This was meant to simply be a discussion, not asking for advice. But great comments so far! Appreciate it

Savage Omegatron tips solo?

Hey hunters, I’ve been trying to clear Savage Omega solo with support hunters. I feel I’ve learned the fight so my problem is not fainting, but I keep timing out. Perhaps I’m missing something? Any tips on how to clear this in time?

HR100+ Now what?

Just beat Gog for my first time and I’ve been lurking in the Reddit watching other people be awesome and get cool loot. Gog Artian weapons hurt my head a bit and it seems easy to burn through a bunch of tarred devices, so I guess I’m going to need to hunt the heck out of Gog some more. Still haven’t seen the Savage Omega quest pop up. Starting to see 9* quests. But now that I’ve hit this point, where do I point myself? If it matters, I main GS with DB backup

Not Important: Finally got Omega!

Just a simple post to celebrate. Finally got omega for my first time! FINALLY! And what’s weird is I didn’t faint once this time, even though my support hunters were subpar. Just so glad to have this under my belt.

While I’m at it, what’s the deal with the Omega GS? Hurt yourself to do more damage? Is that worth it??

Just another Saturday

Trying to beat Omega for my first time. Every time I do it, I’m figuring things out organically. I finally figured out what the heck to do for delta attack. Figured out how to read the attack patterns. I understand how to break panokrotor mode. But today? My batteries wiggled loose in my control and I got feinted. Sigh…. Just another Saturday

Just For Fun- Favorite Starship Moment

Hey everyone, just another post for fun. My players tend to avoid ship combat whenever possible, but I remember some of the most intense and fun play when I was player was starship vs starship insanity. What’s your favorite starship moment you’ve had in SWN? (Doesn’t have to be strictly combat)
