Good pollinator plants that European honeybees don't like?

I bought my home last year and have been having a lot of fun planting native shrubs and flowers! I've seen interesting wasps, and flies, and some native bees, which is just incredible and rewarding to see so soon after starting.

The "problem" I'm having is european honeybees, especially around some sunflowers I planted and a few that came up volunteer. Dozens at a time, maybe even a hundred or more. The air is thick with them, like 5 or 6 on a flower head at a time. I live in a dense suburb area so it's possible I have a neighbor nearby with a hive or something, but truly I've never seen so many bees at a time. I know that I'm going to incidentally feed honeybees, and that's whatever, but it's not what I set out to do and I am not really a fan of the cloud of them currently making half my yard unusable every day. Just too many flying things at face level. I had one land in my hair earlier. Seeing and hearing that many bugs at once makes me get a nauseous feeling in my stomach, which sounds silly I know. I just want to be able to enjoy the space a little more than I currently am.

As I'm thinking about what I want to plant next year, I'm wondering what are some of your favorite plants for sunny areas are that can feed and support native pollinators but are less attractive to European honeybees. Bonus points for good things for caterpillars! Wasps are cool but I want to feed the birds and also see more butterflies!

Is there any DeFlock related groups in New Haven?

I'm just curious because there are so many of the cameras in New Haven. It seems like a poor use of city funds. I see that the city got some federal funds to grow their network, but once those funds are expended, isn't it like $3,000 per camera per year? That's going to be like 1.5 million per year on these cameras, which is a lot of money! Maybe not compared to the entire budget but certainly still could be kept in tax payers pockets or spent on better things.

Aside from the flagrant privacy violations these cameras represent of course. I'm wondering if there's anyone focused on organized advocacy around the topic.

First time fostering a momma with pups. How can I best support her?

Momma is a little fluffy dog, poodle something. She was dumped with an intact male, they didn't think she was pregnant and then she was. There was some sort of backlog on spays so I guess a spay abort wasn't an option. She had four pups, one died in the first day. The rest are doing well. They're somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks now. Still bean shaped but eyes are open and they're toddling around a little. The shelter asked if I could take them so they could have more 1-1 than in the shelter.

I've fostered puppies before, but not this small. But they seem pretty easy, momma is doing everything. I'm more occupied with her. The shelter told me she probably had multiple litters in the past, and she's still pretty young. She wants to play and nap and just get away from the puppies about as often as she can. She feeds them and cleans them but she really doesn't want to be near them except for those quick check ins. She cries and barks when we put her in the crate with them in the evening. She seems so tired. And her teeth are terrible and her mouth is clearly bothering her/bleeding but her dental had to be cancelled because she was pregnant. She is so stinky too, this room I have her is reeks after just a couple of days even though I've been on top of cleaning and swapping blankets. She's so little and frail and my heart hurts for how tough her life must have been so far. I'm tearing up just writing this right now.

I guess I'm just looking for any advice people here have about helping her be more comfortable. She's so sweet, I just want to help her.

How can I safely kill/remove poison ivy to access a site to remove invasive vines from trees?

This isn't quite gardening, I know. Let me know if there's a better community for questions like this.

Basically, I'm working with an organization to help remove invasives and restore about 5 acres of forest which is currently in poor condition and on the edge of serious meltdown. The issue is that some areas which I need to access to cut vines from trees and remove multiflora rose are heavily grown in with poison ivy. In some cases the poison ivy is being used as a ladder for really destructive vines like oriental bittersweet. It really needs to go so that I and some other volunteers can access the site safely- I've already gotten some quite bad on my face without realizing it, even with wearing gloves and using tech-nu soap every time I've been out there (my hands are so dry!). I've removed single vines before but nothing like the thick carpet some areas of this forest have. I'm usually just giving management recommendations, not doing the work myself! This picture has some but is not really representative of how bad it can get.

Thankful for any advice!

ETA: I appreciate the advice to look into goats! I'm not sure that will be a great fit for this area because we want to preserve what tree regeneration there is. I'll keep it under consideration though, there's some areas that might be suitable!

If you know anyone who has a new/slightly used electric lawn mower today, it might be stolen

Someone took my lawn mower, charging block, and a few bags of cans out of my garage last night. I've had so many financial setbacks in the last few months... I was going to return those cans this weekend to help me close the gap on my credit card.

If anyone knows anything about several bags of cans or an electric lawn mower being stolen from a garage in Hamden, just outside of Newhallville, long shot, pls let me know. Really gutted and don't know what I'll do about this. Let my lawn get really tall, for starters :/

Just fed up with the discretionary income calculation

I make ~76k a year (gross, my take home is closer to 50k) and I'm going for PSLF so I'm just trying to keep my payments as low as possible. It's crazy to me that the calculation they use for determining discretionary income for income based repayment plans is based on either 100% or 150% of the federal poverty level, because just my mortgage and home insurance wouldn't even be covered by 150% of federal poverty. When I was renting it wouldn't have either.

These calculations are assuming that I have something like $26,000 a year in discretionary income when it's more like $8,000 at most after the bare essentials are covered (and not counting anything like clothes, personal care items, household items). My payments then are reaching between 50 and 60% of my discretionary income (despite being relatively modest in comparison to some payments that I see here). It's just crazy, and everything else is getting more expensive too. my state has a pretty high COL and it's wild that I'm dealing with the same calculations as someone earning my salary in West Virginia or Mississippi.

My partner is very thin, always has been. He wakes up in the night hungry and has to go eat granola bars and stuff and it disrupts his sleep. He tries to eat more during the day to avoid this issue, but struggles to and doesn't feel hungry enough to eat, outside of small snacks and especially candy. He used to eat a lot of candy, but he has been cutting back on this in the past few years since he recognizes the unhealthiness.

He and I eat similar portions of our main meals, but I'm overweight bordering obese (which I'm working on, it's tough because I want to make calorie dense food for him and not two different meals each night!). He is taller than me and on his feet a lot at work, so I guess that must be the main difference.

I'd like to try and support him more with gaining some weight, I think it would help his sleep and general health (he is underweight). He doesn't have aversion to eating generally or any sort of ED/body image symptoms or extreme pickiness. We've talked frankly about this a couple of times and he just describes it as though his body demands more fuel than he is able to give it and is really frustrated by waking up every night. And I have never struggled with eating even when not specifically feeling hungry (...I like food).

Are there any recommendations from this community for high calorie foods or meals he can try, or strategies for him to eat more throughout the day despite not feeling hungry?

Pls let me know if there is a better community for this. r/nutrition automatically removed it for being "medical" even though that is not really the intent here.

I got honked at for stopping at a stop sign. Twice! By two different people!

I watched someone else fully cut around another driver, and then watched them speed through a stop sign, and then the other driver did too.

Numerous people tailgating me on residential roads where I was already going at or exceeding the speed limit.

I was driving down the hill on Division st, started to prepare to stop for a signal that had turned yellow and a COP who'd been behind me threw himself into the turn only lane and hit the gas, going straight through the red with pedestrians waiting to cross. No lights, no siren.

And all the typical parking in traffic, counted three or four of those this morning but that isn't really anything new.

This all happened in the space of like 20 minutes this morning. What is going on? I know people act like fools as soon as the weather gets nice but this seems so much worse than past years.
