K swap my MR2 spyder OR get a 987 cayman S (.2 pdk or .1 manual)

Hey all, i've been stuck in analysis paralysis limbo for the past couple of months deciding on my long term toy car. I've had the MR2 spyder for 2 years now, absolutely love it but im hounded by that niggling grass is greener feeling for something more. I'm looking for a lifelong commitment in a car and I can't pick between putting a k24 in my car or going for something more refined.

I'm pretty good mechanically, i did the manual swap in my mr2 myself, I've dialed in the chassis stability with underbody bracing, sway bars and coilovers and the idea of k swapping is exciting.

But so is that 987 flat 6 exhaust note.

i'm not too worried about bore score in the 987 as that gives a good reason to increase displacement.

But what do I do, I love the aesthetic and power of the 987 and but i don't want to lose the raw, visceral driving experience of the mr2.

I think in the end they'll cost about the same, I can get either Cayman for around 50k aud and a solid k frankenstein swap will seem to cost between 15 and 25k with my mr2 in its current state being worth around 15-18k aud

Math Theory + Twin Stick Shooter: that's my game, P vs NP: Proof by Combat. Will you win a Millennium Prize playing this? Probably not, will you have fun? Hopefully.

Beta testers have said the proof comes to them in set of violent hallucinations and fever dreams several days after they 100% the game

Wishlist it if you're interested 🙏

I tried a 50 year old Australian red blend...

Wow.

Incredibly complex. On the nose Pedro Ximenez/sherry; Essentially a deep, matured dried grape (think California raisins playing Sade). On first sip, a blast of salinity and umami, then we dive into a sea of French oak; this arrives with a smooth, antique impression of an era on a quest for new world individuality, a chord that strikes deep with Australian viticulturalists of this era. That salinity arrives naturally with licorice and deep red fruits. Not too much more to say tbh.

Honestly was very surprised this wasn't corked and went as smooth as it did.

Loved it

The Lao Gan Ma supremecy is greatly exaggerated. (Chotto Motto not pictured(eaten))

I tried jarred crispy chili oil for the first time this month; got a bit carried away and have now sampled 4 brands so far (yes i've eaten maybe two and a half bottles of chili oil in 30 days). Having been aware of the Lao Gan Ma hype for a while and previously never sampled it, i've now tried all four of these at the same time and i'm finding the encumbent overhyped. Let me give you a rundown of the 4.

  • Lao Gan Ma: Iconic brand, classic chinese profile. Finds its crisp in fermented soybean and chilli flakes, tasty but the least versatile of the bunch that shifts any food it's on into Asian cuisine.
  • Chotto Motto: Very rich on the MSG and fried shallots, finding this my personal benchmark for crispy chilli oil as the shallots have peak mouthfeel and flavour. This on scrambled eggs blew my mind the first time I tried it.
  • Umami Papi: Ironically less Umami than the previous two and a distinct cumin note that I find overpowering, a note that diminishes the versatility of the oil. Same crisp profile as Lao Gan Ma.
  • Six eyed scorpion: Chotto Motto but 5 dollars more with a bit of fennel seed peppered in.

Spice wise they're all somewhat mild until a bite of chili flake hits you with a burst of heat.

Let me know if theres an local underdogs I should try next?
