Red Castle Backpacking

Can anyone share insights into backpacking solo to Red Castle? I am considering backpacking for the first time ever and that seems like a pretty easy spot to get to with great payoff. Fit the record I’m very fit and experienced in hiking.

What is the mosquito/big situation by the end of August? Outside of summiting Mt. Wilson, anything in the immediate vicinity worth a casual day hike to go see from Red Castle?

This Is Hadley

Hadley just recently turned 3 and is a big, big fan of car rides and forest roads I take her on. I’ll comment below with some pictures of recent trips since I can’t seem to add them alongside the video.

Utah’s Uintas

This was from Christmas Meadows area on the north side of the Uintas in Utah.

Simply Lovely

Drove the forest road up to Heber Mountain (10,200ft) to try and spot some of the firefighting operations in Buck Basin from afar. Fire or smoke column wasn’t visible but the single helicopter with water bucket at work was. Pretty neat.

Though not as neat as this…Eagle? Hawk? It was big and later 5 min later I saw it flying alongside another of its kind.

Forest Road Exploration

Some shots from the adventuring over the past month. Shots include Whitney Reservoir in the Uinta’s. Shots from up top Heber Mountain. Duchense Ridge as well as Mill Canyon area. I love Utah, I’ll be sad to move out of here in October.

Wasatch Mountains

This is the Wasatch Back, east side of mountain range that sites alongside Salt Lake City, Utah. Park City is roughly 10 miles north of where this picture is taken. Big mountain back left is Mt. Timpanogos

⚠️ INSANE OFF-ROADING ⚠️

Since my last post was so well received figured people would love to see more crazy, insane, intense off-roading. Class 46,000 trail. Not for the faint of heart. Nearly died 28 times and got 14 punctures. At one point I had to drive upside down in the pouring rain before going 90 degrees straight up a cliff face on only 3 tires. Then I had to winch myself across a 14 mile mud pit and cross a 56ft deep river while fighting off alligators one-handed. So glad I made it back in one piece. Would be dead without my Crosstrek…

(Based on all of the hate my last post got, you would think this is how I must have titled it)

For those that don’t take this sub too seriously. Fun and easy forest road off Mirror Lake Highway. Took Whitney Road up to Moffit Pass then back down and went over to Whitney Reservoir before heading back to SR-150.

Impressed

Took the CTW out on a trail again today. Can’t get enough of it. Load up a small cooler, get some snacks and disappear for a few hours. About 15 miles at an average pace of maybe 7mph. Lots and lots of decently sized rocks and washout everywhere. Only about 2 miles worth had dirt or gravel. OnX Off-Road rates it a class 2 but I would argue it’s a class 3 due to the high puncture risk throughout.

Today’s Adventure

Explored a class 3 off-roading trail in the Uinta’s. Mill Hollow to Campbell Hollow to Mill Hollow a ridge to Heber Mountain.

Uinta National Forrest

Utah is a seriously slept on state. The stunning and highly contrasting geography this place has to offer never ceases to amaze me. The fact I can go out and do this on a weekday after work and be home by dinner is a dream come true.

Tetons In May

Visited for the first time on May 28th, got lucky with this first nights sunset. Posted up a lawn chair next to the road and took it all in.
