Did MSFT/XBOX give too much freedom to Todd & BGS?

https://youtu.be/2BZBoBAZGsc?si=PBarPoNWZSc64-y7

This I feel like is a great breakdown of the poor business decisions MSFT made relating to how it handled its acquisitions of so many developers- did this same thing occur to BGS

TLDR - MSFT allowed studios to build cool new “fun” offices and gave little to 0 direction on game dev, projects to green light, and did not hold any of them accountable

Interested in Build to Suit - Raw Land

I’m currently a holder of raw land, most of it, purchased a decade or more ago waiting for growth around the land to arrive.

That growth has occurred, and instead of simply selling the land off, I’m interested in exploring how to find JV or potentially build to suit commercial sites on some of this property.

Does anyone have experience marketing or sourcing these types deals?

Many of the real estate agents I’ve discussed this with, offer nearly 0 help or deal flow.

I know there are people that would be interested, how would you find them? If they are companies (fast food franchises etc) how do you connect with those who want to operate the business but not the real estate?

The Music in Skyrim Means so Much

It’s so wild that when reviewing comments and/or the 10hr version of this, how many others either sleep to or meditate to just the music and atmosphere of Skyrim. How it brings you back to a place in your life.

This is So peaceful.

https://youtu.be/vgUaZz04bkw?si=opHVo6zR6YyMJtyP

It also takes you back to that time in your life, what you were doing, what you were striving for, the break in your life that Skyrim gave as a little reprieve or maybe it was earlier in life, like Morrowind was for me, a young middle schooler without a care in the world…

I for one was new to my career, grinding 60-70hrs per week to make it. It was time of incredible stress and life challenges and uncomfortable growth. And in the middle of that transformation, I needed a reprieve. So taking my first actual vacation in over a year and a half, I took that Christmas off as a reward for the hard work, and my efforts. For 1-2 weeks I literally removed myself from the world like I was a kid in middle school playing Morrowind. I ordered junk food, and gamed

Turns out it actually created a habit for the my next 5yrs in my career where the 2 weeks around Christmas and NY were my only vacation time to check out and reset. Some of those breaks were surely in Skyrim, exploring, some were exploring actual mountain out west

Forever this music brings me back to that apartment and allowing myself a little break in my life and to help me keep going.

Is Todd 100% (or even 80%) focused on TESVI or is he still delegating and splitting time between TES & other projects?

Todd the god has created some of the best and most immersive video games I’ve ever played. During the epic run of Morrowind-Skyrim, it is my understanding that Todd’s sole (or close to it) project were each of those games, allowing him to focus on details/ideas/game philosophy/vibes etc to create the amazing games we got to play.

With the explosion of popularity, and demand for Todd’s time on so many other projects (TV, mobile, producer of other games, MGMT) his time is not able to be allocated 100% to the current single player game development. As I understand it, Todd has had to delegate more and more of the mainline projects to others, with this starting more during FO4 and continued and expanded more during FO76, & Starfield.

It’s also known (thought) that the less Todd is able focus fully on one game, the worse off the project turns out.

So: is Todd able to give his full attention onto TESVI?

Finally A Positive YouTube - TES VI Will Be Good

https://youtu.be/JHqVQWk36QQ?si=4UFZHZclyWGVObBX

Idk how my algorithm sent me this, rather low viewer creators video… (yes I do, I search TES news basically daily)

I didn’t agree with the entire video and was surprised at some of the takes (completely lost me on the burger references) BUT I’m so glad there is at least SOME positive content coming out.

The monetization of many YouTubers sole channel basically just dunking on BGS is so old

I am not referring to Mattyplays when he’s giving fair critiques, but the likes of DrawnOut who is some drab dude who just bitches about games and mostly BGS, and likestephens (not going to correct sp)

TES Spin-Offs Examples?

With Xbox pushing for a focus on TES and FO there is speculation of some that they may push into other genre of games, in guessing like RTS like age of empires but in the TES world?

Hope realistic is this?

What other genres would they likely expand into?

Would you play?

Savers Potion - Limit Factors on Certain Aspects of the Game

I liked the idea of savers potion (Saviour Schnapps) as a way of constraining a player.

TES does this in a way with characters features/looks only being able to change at certain locations /vendors.

I was thinking doing this with game difficulty might be another thing that could be tweaked.

Like most passionate fan bases, I’m sure there will be pilot opposite takes, with valid reasoning!

If I recall in some TES games (maybe even Skyrim) sleeping in an actual bed gives a better bonus? I think I remember in Morrowind or/and Oblivion certain things required you to sleep in a bed to get? Maybe it was leveling up or something

I’m curious, would others like this in TES? What other things like this could be put in to create some fun design challenges?

HarderCore RPG or “casual”

Over the last 3 TES the games have gotten progressively more inclusive of a player base and “casual”

My first TES was Morrowind and it was one of my favorite experiences. I loved the challenge of the game with its RPG heavier side. That being said, I have not gone back and played it so maybe I’m just nostalgic and I don’t recall some of the annoyances - dice roll for attack

Skyrim on the other hand is a game I still go back and play (maybe that’s why they haven’t released TESVI b/c it would “end” Skyrim) and love spending hours in game. It’s easy to get into and just play.

I’ve seen a ton of the fan base express interest in some more heavier RPG elements and some that push back on making things more complex b/c it’s a casual rpg …

What are your thoughts?

What are some Pros and Cons to think about when considering a more hardcore vs casual RPG experience?

Added RPG Features from Other Games or your BIG Brain

KCD made you learn to read, before you could learn from reading. I thought this was a cool take and way to expand the RPG simulation

I would love this little feature to be added into TESVI.

A random thought: You could mimic certain other things where you’re super clumsy with a hammer until you get proper black smithing lessons. Same with all the major skills really. Maybe accounting for business or trade?

Are there any others that would be similar to gating reading, where you have to learn to, before the player can learn from reading?

Auto Decorator / Prefab for Homestead

I played Starfield on console, maybe I’d feel different on CPU but I found the completely blank fabs very frustrating to decorate and make them look like an actual home.

I’d much rather there be a preset I could choose from for an auto decorate feature for my various homes/rooms etc. like Skyrim did

Thoughts!?

Come to think of it, was the idea for it to be left blank so that we would more likely opt to buy a “creations” from someone who did spend the time to make a home look cool? That would suck if they did that with that in mind.

I Don’t Hate Skyrim (or Oblivion(or Morrowind)) Loading Screens!

Maybe this is a contrarian view but I did not mind the loading screens when entering a building or even some cities! I’d love more “open” cities, but buildings, like door ways weren’t a bother to me, in fact I kinda liked having the chance to learn more about the world and lore that it gave me.

Is the loading screen backlash mostly a recent phenomenon tied to starfield?

I did think the loading screens became a bit much in starfield.

List Of Factions / Status on Player BIO UI?

I’m sure when looking through my game play “stats” I can see how many factions I’ve joined and the number of quests completed for each, but I’d like to see a player bio when viewing my character

I’d like a general sense of who the character is from a game standpoint, what factions I belong to, are they helpful to others, does good in the world etc. like a quick summary of the players status in the world.

I guess it could get out of hand with how to do it, help me out with some ideas?? Do you think this would be a cool feature in the UI?

Ex: Companions Headmaster, Owns a home outside Solitude, married, rich $, Bad Dresser, Dragon Slayer

Over Encumbered

A reflection on Starfield and how it was far different than TES & FO carry weight and what occurs when you reach max weight or exceed it….

Way back, in Morrowind & oblivion days, I think I recall, once you exceeded carry weight you couldn’t move an inch, or maybe you did, like truly moved an inch… Skyrim, you just walked hella slow but there were all sorts of spells and plenty of carry weight helping items to boost max.

Starfield, you could carry EVERYTHING and still move at a decent clip & once starborn powers, basically just run while far exceeded carry weight limit. This was actually annoying or became annoying as it didn’t make you really choose what you had to carry out of a POI.

What do you think, should they limit carry weight more so when exploring a POI, you have to make hard choices of why to take outta there? Or for those better prepared, force you to have to have potions to help when the time comes to depart with your loot?

New Thing - The amount of touchable stuff

I don’t know if I’ve seen any comments on the touchable world but this was one of the coolest things that for immersion was mind blowing back when Morrowind dropped, you could actually touch the world, pick up a plate, or cup and it had a value … fast forward to starfield and you could “touch” or pick up just about anything.

It almost became too much, too detailed - like the amount of styrofoam cups I’d end up with after a looting expedition was wild.

I’m clearly one the HAS to pick up EVERYTHING to sell it and maximize $ in game … maybe it’s like a gaming type of OCD but…

Is there a point where there is too many things to move/touch/loot for resale?

As I type this out…I lean towards no but I do recall (haven’t played starfield in about a year) it somewhat irking me that there was THAT many thing I just HAD to pick up to clear an area out - curious if anyone else had this thought when playing starfield - and do you want TESVI to have an office desk to loot with literally 20 unique items on it to pick up?

Maps - User Created

Would love to see more speculative hand made maps here. Went back and saw one that was posted about a year or so ago, so much crazy detail and very cool info about the city locations etc.

My AI generated ones are put to shame by these - would love to see yours if you have been working on any?

GOT & Skyrim… is this TES & DUNE

BGS ties into the current thing… probably better than any other studio. Oblivion was LOTR I think, Skyrim clearly GoT … so is the thing DUNE? Wjat else could there be that fits for the broad culture? It fits perfect with Hammerfell.

If it is, and TES has been in the works (conceptually) before the first Dune came out, was it always part of the plan or will the devs just take some creative liberty from the Dune world?

Prioritize TES & FO - what does it mean?

Questions upon questions -

If Asha has to come out and flatly state that XBOX is pushing BGS to focus on TES, what was Phil doing? What was BGS doing?

Were they literally not focused on two of the largest RPG fan bases in gaming?

Is this what Pete Hines was saying on his interview a few months back - that XBOX & its leadership doesn’t necessarily live up to their promises?

The business decisions have been so questionable over the past several years, is it finally turning around?

Do more resources mean the game actually comes out sooner? Or that it was potentially going to be delayed?
