Please help me build my bike by staying in budget?

Buying my first cargo bike and want some help from people who ride bikes (or cargo bikes in NYC). Here is my current budget and all:

  • Bike: $4200
  • Child seat + rain cover + decent lock: around $1000

still got a bit of budget left, so I’m trying to decide between two add-ons ekickstand or e-dropper post)

On my test ride i got to try both. Both made the ride easier (in different ways.)

But I feel like kickstand was more helpful to some extent during the test ride. Because I kept stopping to check the bike or to adjust the kid seat and to take photos. So parking with 1 button is kinda easy than it would be to lift the heavy bike with cargo and all. Also helped with the balance when I was loading stuff.

But then test ride is different from daily use. On daily rides there will be traffic lights and junctions and pedestrian crossings all the time. Each time i will stop i will have to put a foot down carefully (with a kid on the back). I am average height and the bike has a tall seat position for cargo stability and all. So reaching ground at every stop and then balancing a loaded bike sounds very scary and might make me tired.

The e-dropper will drops the seat at every stop so i wont have to tiptoe. And then when I ride it goes back up for pedalling. Please help which one will be more helpful?

Should I buy a €5.8K version of the bike with electric features or a €3.8K one and upgrade later if needed?

I have been looking for cargo bike for a while now and the other day bike shop guy in my neighborhood showed me these 2 bikes. They both are models of same brand but like 2 different version with different features. The irony is, I liked lower end model more (even though my budget is around 5K) I didnt see any issues with it. The dealer told me that if I have 5K budget I should save a few more and get l1s worth €5,500.

The cheaper one is around €3,800 so the difference is almost €2,000. The expensive model (on right) has enviolo automatiq shifting and comes with belt drive and also has an ekickstand and smart turn signals. And radar + camera system. The cheaper one (on left) has a regular 10-speed drivetrain, chain drive and manual kickstand.

The dealer told me that people who buy basic version later upgrade it with other features and so whats the point of going with basic one when you guys end up paying almost same. But honestly I am not sure if some extra features are worth the price difference and even if I felt like I needed one of those things, I can get it upgraded later. What do you guys think?

Got our first ever cargo bike and we are in love with it

I got my cargo bike a few days ago and even though everyone kept telling me that I shouldnt get it or that I will regret it and that they are too expensive for a bike. I am very happy that I am 100% satisfied with it.

But this doesnt change the fact that buying cargo bike is wayyy harder than getting a car for some reason. And it got very overwhelming at one point since I was test riding alot of them and I was watching so many influencer reviews and their opinion was kinda influencing me during test rides as well. Like I thought I was getting biased when testing popular ones. But then I came out of youtube and started searching here on Reddit and most people here said that instead of relying on youtube reviews I should trust my guts and my exp of test rides more and I also learnt something very important here (which I almost neglected by this point) was that I need to test it with my kids and with grocceries or as much weight as I can because ultimately I will be riding with them and using a bike with and without kids is totally different.

But going on test rides with my kids was also exhausting. I legit went out of town to find shops to test some bikes recommended here on Reddit and doing it with kids was very hard.

I tested longtails, front loaders, midtails. Some were amazing empty but weird when loaded. One felt like I was steering a boat. Another had a motor that felt like it was struggling on a small hill. I was getting so confused that I started a spreadsheet comparing weight, motor torque, battery capacity, drivetrain type, price, rack compatibility and any other pros and cons I could.

Here I made a big mistake that I didnt get in touch with brands directly and was contacting bike shops near me and so that made things harder for me during testing. I legit had to drive 2 hours to test ride this one. Some shops only had one model in stock and it wasnt the one I wanted to go with. But later when I was making an order and got in contact with brand they told me that they were during lots of beta programs and could have send it to me and I could try it for longer time. So I would recommend to get directly in touch with brand during this phase it might save you guys from alott of furstration.

Another thing for me was analysis paralysis. Every bike that I liked has negative reviews on Reddit and so I ended up rejecting it. And so only valid option left for me was tern but it was way out of my budget (since I was getting a cargo bike in the first place because I wanted something that me and wife could use when other had car) But my wife was more inlined towards this one because she found it easier to ride (among others) mainly because of e dropper post.

Long story short I ordered it and we (me and my wife) are loving it. We thought it would be harder to decide who would ride bike but now both of us want to take bike lol (idk could be that its new)
