Tange Ultimate heat treatment vs brazing/welding?

Has anybody tried to braze or weld addons onto Tange prestige ultimate ultrastrong tubes? These are supposedly heat treated? Or are they air hardening like some reynolds?

I plan to modify a 26“ mtb into a mullet cargo bike (20“ front tire).
I have two frames with very mangled paint that i could use as the base. both are my size:
- mid 90ies stevens 862 with Tange prestige Ultimate ultrastrong. Sloped frame, oversized tube, externally splined down tube. Weight 2.1kg
- early 90ies Wilier with regular sized columbus thron, straight top tube. Weight 1,9kg

I feel the heavier sloped frame is stronger and would be better suited to a cargo bike. At the same time theoretically the thron is not heat treated, thick enough for brazing and careful welding. But the Tange ultimate should be heat treated which means i could destroy the treat treatment? I feel it is not that thin though especially at the head tube where i will insert and weld a turned tube extension and at the down tube where i want to add bracing for that extension.

Any frame builders with experience brazing or welding these steels? What would you recommend?

Looking for company | Bikepacking Southern Norway – Nasjonal Sykkelrute 3 & 2 | 340km, 5–7 Days in July

Hey fellow bikepackers!

I'm planning a bikepacking trip through Southern Norway in July and would love to find spontaneous people to ride with. I wanted to do a tour with a buddy but he dropped out for family reasons.

Originally I had my eyes on the Mjølkevegen or Rallarvegen, but after looking at the weather and temperatures up on the central Norwegian plateau... yeah, Southern Norway it is.  I am open to tour suggestions and alterations though!

The route i planned is roughly following Nasjonal Sykkelrute 3 and 2. About half and half gravel and paved roads with a few optional off-road detours sprinkled in. Around 340 km and 3,600 m of elevation intended for 5–7 days, with an optional +80km to Haukeli and a buffer day built in  — because why rush through good scenery?

I'm absolutely fine riding solo — but honestly, being able to share those views with company makes them better. And practically riding as a team just has many perks: Mutual motivation on the climbs, shared gear, shared cooking, and someone to blame when you take a wrong turn.

Looking for someone reasonably self-sufficient and happy with a relaxed pace. Bikepacking experience helpful but not essential — just bring good spirits, health and a working bike.

I'm an experienced bikepacker, but this trip is about soaking in the landscape, not setting PRs. So i prefer to be riding party pace, not gravel races. I'll be on a „DIY gravel bike“ (Dirt drop rigid fork MTB) with about 10kgs of additional gear.

I plan to take the Train from Hamburg to Hirtshals in Denmark, then the ferry to Kristiansand — where the route kicks off directly. Return trip by train from Lunde, about 2.5 hours back to Kristiansand.

Drop a comment or DM if you're interested or have questions. I am open to do an overnighter or weekender to get to know each other, but i can see the time schedule is getting pretty tight.
I am flexible on the exact Date of the tour as long as it is before August when i need to be back in Germany.

Extreme resto mod spotted in the wild

Spotted on a mostly road biking event. Rider was wearing full lycra kit and clipless shoes with egg-beater pedals. Mods were quite extensive but all functional like the dyno hub, electric horn, lights, shifter, foldable rear basket, etc.

Was macht die IT der deutschen Bahn eigentlich beruflich?

Spotted in the wild

Spotted on a fleamarket but not for sale.

Ti frame, super flexy 1inch ti fork with tiny blades, chris king 1 1/8" to 1" adapted headset. Spinergy wheels with zylon spokes, fake carbon handlebar, bcd94 carbon crank, 2" black bonkers (a shame he didn't have furios freds) ... It was very light!

i bought pair of Fred tires though on the flea market and feel like a king today.

Anybody has an idea what make of frame this is? The owner said it had no label when he bought it and thinks it is made by a russian aerospace engineers in their past time from aerospace Ti. But i think the russian heritage idea is born more out of wishful thinking than facts. That exotic heritage sounds nicer in conversations though.

Any fellow xbikers in Hamburg wanna gang up on Ascension day?

I am planning a tour with chill people on Ascension Day.

The route tries to stay away from traffic, mostly on singletrails, fire roads with mud and dirt, but nothing too technical. I suppose any gravel bike yet alone full blown xbike can do it.

We ride party pace, chill and while we will probably have some quality beers, it is not gonna be a drinking event like people do on ascension day traditionally in germany. It is mostly a cycling and socializing event.

We are starting in Hamburg Altona at 11:00:

For a quicker way back there exists a U1 station quite close from the Destination.

If you wanna join, please drop a comment. We also have a whatsapp group for this ride, please DM me to get an Invitation link.

As for the weather outlook - Please pray with me: May our trousers only get wet from the bottom.

The Paint looks like a 1995 "Diamond Black metallic with Violet Pearl Hyper-Highlight (EVP) colorway".

The Alivio group set could be from 1996.

But the M300LE Mixte Frameset has only been introduced in the 1997 catalogue and the only color for that year was Galaxy Sky with silver details.

The 1998 Model was only available in Emerald Green Pearl.

The 1999 model had different rims, an 1 1/8" fork and adjustable angle stem, a supension seatpost, etc. - it was available in "Jam Purple with Violet Pearl Hyper Gloss (PUR)" though.

What model year is it?
