Image retention comes easy, goes away reluctantly

Another question from me, as I am learning to understand plasmas.

I was gaming on my gt50 for 1 to 1.5 hours. Picture setting was in „Game mode“ for lese latency/lag and contrast is set to 42 out of 60.

I always let the retention cleaner of the tv run for about 30 mins after my sessions, just to be clear. Then next day in the evening I was watching a movie for almost 2 hours.

Afterwards I again switch on the retention cleaner for some minutes to check.

And I am still seeing, albeit just a very tiny bit, from the games UI.

It didnt bother me at all, im just surprised that I gamed for not that long and still the image retention is visible and doesnt want to go away that easily, making me afraid of burn in if I game more than 2 hours? (Even if I stop then and play again on the next day, the retention will still help in getting to a burn in?)

Does it sound normal or are there some
Tips i should follow?

Which video output to choose on my Gt50 with Apple TV ?

Sorry im not that knowledgeable yet, but googling it I get an answer to put it on 1080p sdr with 50hz but I always assumed 24hz is better for movies etc., so shouldnt I put it on 1080p sdr 24hz?

How black is a plasmas black really?

Just a remark before I start, this is not meant to „downplay“ or being „negative“ towards plasmas, I adore my TV! Im just trying to understand and learn a bit more about it.

So today is a very bright day and unfortunately my plasma stands in a bright room with the light source/window directly behind it , very suboptimal but the only spot I can place it.

So I can only enjoy it with the blinds fully down. Thats not a big problem for me. But with the room being bright, I noticed (especially) today that the screen when turned off is actually pretty… grey. While the frame for example is a deep black.

So when the TV is turned on, and it is displaying black, its in reality just „grey“, from the unlit display part and the dark room makes it appear black? Is my assumption correct?

Just asking to learn! Because I originally come from the CRT bubble and there i learned that highly regarded CRTs like the philips blackline have a specially darkened/blacked mask that make contrast for blacks even better. Because the CRT mask usually is also just „grey“ when turned off. Why wasnt that utilized for plasmas as well?

Would it have made the screen too dimm? Or is it really just not comparable?

Also the blacks on my GT50 also dont appear to be „deep black from the abyss“ even in a dark room anymore but that might just be because of course it is older and I believe has around 12k hours on it.

Your typical „is this asbestos“? Found from a desconstructed hut in germany, definitely built before 1990s

TX-P42GT50E or TX-P42GTW60

Hi. So I already have a GT50E. I have the possibility to pick up an GTW60. I know its really dependent on the hours of the set and possible burn-in, but that set aside and purely from a technical standpoint:
Would it make sense to go for the GTW60 over the GT50E? It would be a ~2 hour tour.

Just imagine… a port of Chrono Trigger for the GBA like the FF6 one

Oh what I would give to have port of Chrono Trigger for the GBA. I mean, if Yoshis Island was able to be ported, which was already edging out the SNES, Chrono Trigger surely wouldve been possible, with maybe a little bit of small visual downgrades, right?
Id love to see that.

Its my turn to share vacation pics and experience (question in body text)

I started into vacation with my 1000 and took two games out of my collection with me, which Ive never played before.

One of them being Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
Holy good damn, I think its the best game I have played on the system in total, and I played most of the top gunners already. It feels just so good to play, has the right amount of gameplay complexity and just looks amazing!

Whom did you guys start as when playing? I started with Ventus. When I play as the next character, will I retain any commands/lvls/money/other progress I already gained? I feel like if thats the case I want to have separate game files to play every character „from beginning to end“. Does that make sense? I already read online I will need to play all 3 of them to get the complete game.

5 hours in so far, addicted. First and only ever KH game I played was the first one and I dont plan on trying to understand the games story that much as I know the memes about how nonsensical confusing it is haha. Just enjoying the ride.

I hate the lil dust specs below the faceplate

What is a man to do? I re-assembled my psp 1000 flawlessly after the screen up date in a humid room and using those dust removers that stick to the screen you use when preparing your phone for a glass protection layer but sometimes later it creeps back in again through the buttons and speaker holes i assume.

Is the foam gasket around the screen not enough? Maybe i need to stack two gaskets on top of each other? Any and all tips appreciated, any speckles below the screen just aggravate me haha

Is this normal/ok?

So ive got this Panasonic TX-P42GT50E. Im pretty satisfied and happy with it, has about 13k hours. Im very new to plasma TVs, ive never had one before this (got it 2 weeks ago) and im very new to this tech of display so please bear with me.

When using it I am noticing this „sparkle“ effect you can see in the video. They seem to appear more when there is a gradient of colors but I notice them all over the screen, to a lesser extent. When I got more distance between me and the tv, i dont notice it as much, but still on my last blu ray it had this… „moving/grizzling“ effect i feel. Also the white lines in the second video appear a bit… fuzzy?

I looked up videos of other more close up shots of plasma tvs to compare and in the videos online I didnt see this kind of effect, everything was sharp.

Is this something i should worry about or is there something I can do about it? Thanks for any tips.

Question to MX4200 owners

Can somebody show me please via a testgrid pattern if and how much cutoff the tv has on the left side? I know that that is a thing for most if not all b&o sets. Thanks in advance!

PSP1000 Screenmod… reset?

So frustrating… did the screenswap, bridged the connections on the mainboard accordingly with silverpaint. Admittedly it took 3-4 days curing and the picture made one or two jumps shortly after that but then worked perfectly. Now im turning on the system and the screen is not aligned anymore. I did nothing with it, no drop, no big temperature changes, just normal gameplay from time to time.

Just, why?

I want to bridge it with solder but its just so tiny im
Afraid to mess it up…

Any encouraging tips? :(

Now im one of yous and I love it! Any tips? (Panasonic TX-P42GT50E)

Im mainly a CRT guy and exclusively played pre 7th gen on my tubes, but as I finished Metal Gear Solid 1-3 (incl. portable ops and peace walker on the PSP) of course I felt the itch to start playing my dusty old xbox360 and bought a new to me ps3.

I researched on a era specific display and came to the conclusion: I want a plasma TV. A buddy of mine worked for Panasonic and told me what to look out for.

This is how I ended up with this gorgeous!! beast that generates such a vibrant and colorful picture and the consoles look their absolute best.

So happy I did it, was hesitant at first to get such a big beast into my house but I have no regrets!

Anybody got some tips on what I should look out for on my TV/tips on how to maximize the gaming experience? (Ofc already using game mode to get basically nonexistent input lag!)
