[New York] Got questionnaire about my severance, have a few questions

I just received a letter and questionnaire stating that I received severance and would more or less have to fill it out and verify this. I believe I’m getting this because I didn’t say I was getting severance when I first filed for unemployment. I said that on the application because I filed immediately the moment I got laid off start of this month and was a little too hasty in filing for unemployment. I realized my mistake by the time I received the official letter from my former employer stating that I’m receiving 4 weeks severance. This is my first time filing for unemployment, so I also didn’t know at the time that you immediately have to contact the DoL to let them know you are getting severance if you filed it wrong. I left it alone and figured it wasn’t a big deal.

My last day of work was June 1st. I got my last paycheck the next day, which is about a week's worth of pay. I received my severance pay on June 12 and June 26, which is yesterday at the time of this post. The severance is about a month's worth of pay all together. Will I still receive unemployment despite receiving severance because it's over at this point, or will I get denied because I got severance? I haven't got any unemployment payments yet. Will I also have to repay any unemployment I receive by the time they get the questionnaire and process my claim?

EDIT: I also noticed that the mailing date is the 17th. I received this on the 26th. It states that I have to fill it out and return it 7 days from the mailing date, and it got here more than 7 days after. It says that if it’s not done within that timeframe, they’ll make a decision based off of what they already know. How will this affect me?

Is there a place I can go to in FiDi to do a virtual interview?

I plan on attending the Knicks parade this Thursday, but I also so happen to have a virtual interview later that day too. I don’t seem to be able to reschedule it either. I’m not sure how long the parade’s gonna go on, so I don’t know if I can get back home in time to get it done. I know it sounds irresponsible to try and do both on the same day, but for me this feels like a possible once in a lifetime moment and I really don’t want to miss it. Are there any good quiet cafes or other such spaces I can pop into to get this interview done the same day? This is bad decision making on my part but I wanna try and make this work.

Got laid off for the very first time

Just got laid off at my job for the very first time in my life yesterday and I'm feeling kinda weird about it. It's definitely not a good feeling, that much I can tell. I'm more or less numb to it since I had a feeling this was going to happen at some point based on recent trends at my job, and I figured that at some point, it was going to happen to me.

And guess what? I was right. Me and another coworker were let go because our team is getting offshored. For context, I work in IT, so you can probably tell exactly what is going on here. Processes were becoming more automated and remote, and we were hiring more offshore workers from South Asia. Thankfully, I was already looking for a new job about a month ago because I was getting sick of it. I was there for about 2 years and figured that it was about time to look for greener pastures. I only wish I started searching a little sooner, that way I could've gotten out before they inevitably let me go. Being on the other end of a layoff was surreal considering for about 2 years, I was one of the ones doing the deactivating.

I'm not very far into my career either. I've only been in IT for a total of about 3 years now, so it does kinda suck to have this happen at this point of my career. Either way, I expect that this'll be far from the first time I get laid off, especially considering my field and recent trends in tech. I am very much not looking forward to being back on the job market full time, as I've heard and seen nothing good about it. Luckily I already have some interviews lined up, but with how this market is, nothing's guaranteed. I really do wish this didn't happen or that I at least found something beforehand so I could leave on my own terms. Getting back on the market was miserable the first few times I was in it and I know it's even worse now. Hopefully I get lucky and find something new soon.

Just got laid off because of offshoring, kind of feeling at a loss

As the title says, I have been let go from my current job because my employer has decided to completely offshore the IT team. I was already searching around for a new job because I had a feeling this was going to happen, and I wasn't happy with how there was absolutely no growth whatsoever here, but damn if it doesn't sting. I already have interviews lined up, but with how bad this job market's been, I know I'm going to be in for a tough time. Definitely feeling at a loss here. It honestly kinda feels like a bad dream I've had before. I'm sure I'm far from the only one here who's in the same boat. Anyone got any advice or experiences to share?
