Galio mid macro: how to sidelane and when/how to continue in midlane.

Question on thread

I usually play with Galio mid and hate being "forced" into sidelane because sidelane is where I lose the ability to force R into objectives, as well as a lot of power budget being on R and R being a useless ultimate on duels.

Usually I try to slightly ping people and my ult and write on chat "still have ult,.plz let me mid now, I sidelane later".

Even with that, I feel that botlane + support often wants to go midlane as well as my dueling potential being not so high and harder to properly sidelane.

How do you Galio mid enjoyers do about side?

Max E build?

The last patch directly affecting Galio improved AP ratio from 90 to 100% as well as +10 damage to it.

However the important change is Imperial Mandate rework because it affects E cd more than Q cd. Galio with Merc Treads + Imperial Mandate + Transcedence have 25 regular AH but 45 AH for immobilizing spells. This makes max Q a 5.6s CD but a max E a 4.8s CD. On T3 Lucidity it is 45 regular AH vs 65 AH for immobilizing.

This makes max Q a 4.8s CD and max E a 4.24w CD.

E has higher direct AP scaling (100% vs 70%), knocks up, is used for chase, and for longer fights, importantly, a lower CD spell means more procs to Colossal Smash.

Tell me what you think.

Blackfire Torch as 1st item?

Protobelt at 120% gold efficiency with good buildup and active was a no brainer. However, the recent changes in the buildup as well as lower AP makes me think that Protobelt is not supposed to be 1st item anymore.

So I've trying BFT 1st. The passive increasing AP by a bit as well as doing more damage on jungle monsters is extremely good macro-wise as this means at any moment where Galio gets the upper hand and momentum it is very easy to use it to help the jungler at doing objectives or stealing the enemy jungle camps, which a regular build simply takes forever to do. The higher AP as well as burn effect makes it much more easily to kill waves with Galio compared to HR or Protobelt. MP is often thought as a wasted stat but a 600 MP slap makes Galio much less reliant on Manaflow Band and DRing.

I'm still trying to figure out optimization post BFT, however. Imperial Mandate giving 35 AH on W, E and R and increasing damage by 7% on a 2400g is very good but a build with no HP items seem too vulnerable to play as Galio and not burst enough compared to 2 MPen items.

How to figure out enemy wants to go APC botlane and how to (mildly) counter it.

The enemy banlist looks weird.

When a players uses a ban, it is almost always for one of these 2 reasons:

1 - The role the players is filled has annoying champion that the player doesn't want to face - toplaners banning Darius/Teemo/Illaoi, Jg players banning Shaco, Mid banning Zed/Yasuo/Yone, ADC players banning Caitlyn/Draven/Vayne/Twitch, support banning Yuumi/Sona/Nautilus. Players will ban these champions regardless of the champion they will pick simply because it is annoying playing vs some champions.

2 - The players is an OTP and uses its ban to stop enemy from picking hardcounter. Vayne/Quinn top will ban Malphite, low range midlaners will ban Xerath, Ezreal will ban Vayne, Vayne ADC banning Draven, engage supports banning Braum/Taric, etc.

Now, playing APC kind of make immune to common ADC annoying champions, so the APC player has zero reason to ban Caitlyn/Draven/Vayne because it already does good enough vs them.

So I propose an exercise: were you a bottom lane player that wants to play APC, how would you structure your ban planning? It would.most likely be a ban something like the 2- listed above.

Few ADCs do bad versus Sivir, she lacks dueling potential, she is not the most fun ADC there is, suffers from low range. Few OTPs would ban Sivir, but her anti-magic shield and waveclear makes her premier-like vs APC.

APCs also have some niche weakness vs some picks or some APCs. Mel and Galio both have anti-magic spells that are much more likely to punish spellcasters botlane, so someone playing APC is much more likely to use a ban on these somewhat niche picks than a regular ADC players. Ziggs in an interesting case as he is forced to play on botlane since many years ago and the champion has already been balanced upon such fact, but his tower damage potential as well as semi-global ult and free farm means that he is ironically a very good anti-APC APC champion.

So my advise is: when a team has neither multiple assassins bans or direct ADC bans, it is much more likely to be going for a APC botlane. Sivir ban is so uncommon that imo you should assume that enemy is going APC merely from such ban. Ziggs/Galio/Mel ban when the enemy hasn't shown any ADC ban should also make you think it is trying to go for APC strat.

So, how to counter it? Go for Sivir/Ziggs/Mel pick. If you don't want to play fire vs fire, or APC vs APC, and Sivir has been banned, other decent ADCs are Zeri (assassin-like, big mobility and good duelist), Ashe (good DPS, good range vs tanks, falcon and global arrow reduce the burden of low farm), Jhin (traps make him hard to be ganked, both W and R can assist in long range which reduces the impact of needing to play safe), Ezreal (just spam Q).

Is Yunara a good champion to pool with Vayne?

Title.

Aside from Lucian and MF, I feel I hate most ADCs. My favorite one for many years was Vayne, who is strong but weak for picking first.

Is Yunara a good champion to complement pool with Vayne?

Patches has a sleeper build.

Imagine yourself you were born as a non-reborning humanoid. "You died" isn't just a red sentence where seconds afterwards you just resume the stuff you were doing like nothing happened and use the experience of death to not die again.

No, you are actually a humanoid that either will be sent to the Catacombs or a humanoid that will become an undead if you die.

You were born in this cursed Lands Between land where there are fire, frost, undead, rotten giant dragons. You were born in this land where a giant lobster hundreds of meters away spew a water jet that kills you. You were born in this land where several meters talls bears exist. You were born in this land where a giant manipulates gravity and can ride a small pony as well as forcing meteors to shatter the own land.

How do you survive?

Enter Patches build.

Greatshield ensures that small monsters as well as most humanoid enemies attacks are blocked and rebounced.

Leather set is light enough so that it allows maneuverability versus larger monsters that are impossible to be blocked. Also likely a cheap and easy to find material.

Spear. Pointy stick. Can attack while blocking with a Greatshield. Good range. Perfect to kill monsters. Allows use of many Ashes of Wars, such as Ice Spear, Impaling Thrust.

I think the most interesting thing about Patches is how in a land of many magical monsters and magic abusers humanoids, he is one of that survives the most, simply by abusing common but really effective equipment that doesn't put him in harm versus most things that would want to kill him.
