*Medieval stops*
Hi everyone, Marcus from Adobe here. A couple of weeks ago I asked if you would be interested in a Bento grid plugin for InDesign. We exchanged value insights and I kept working on it. Now it's ready for you to test it. It's a UXP Plugin, so just double click and let it install via your CC app.

Not, this is not an official Adobe product, just a personal project - so use at your own risk.

Thank you!

Restock Smyths

This goes out to my fellow German beyblade homies. Does anyone know if there’s a regular time period for Smyth Toys stores getting a fresh batch of beys. Like at the end of the month? Or is that random. Thanks!

Vector Stretch Tutorial

Hi, Marcus from Adobe here.

Everyone knows the infamous pixel stretch effect you can create in Photoshop. But what about Illustrator? Because I love my vectors! Turns out, you kinda can recreate this with vectors. I made a quick tutorial you can follow and make your own stretch effect that you can edit in real time. Let me know how you like it!

Cheers

*Edit*: I completely forgot that you can left align all squares at once and then stretch them all together in step 7!

Bento Grid Plugin Update

Hey everyone, this is Marcus from Adobe.

Last week I showed you my project and wanted to know if you would use this plugin. Most of you want to give it a try! Now I have one final decision to make.

I made two versions, one that let's you change the total sections and gives you a more organic look. Let's call that one Organic Bento.

The second version works differently: It let's you set a columns and rows grid that tiles snap to and span, using a cell-snapped version of the split (so every tile edge aligns to the grid). That gives you more control and it looks more structured. Think of how you would set up a grid manually: A total number of squares as underlying grid, that you then use for snapping – I hope this makes sense.

I want to ask what would you prefer, Organic or Columns x Rows?

Thank you so much!

Bento Grid Plugin

Indesign users! I'm Marcus from Adobe and I heavily use Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop since I'm a classic graphic designer. I always loved the way you can import and mask images directly inside an object when placing them in Indesign. But what I don't like is setting up grids, not for typographic layouts but more for presenting, so think about Bento grids or block grids in general.

I made a working prototype of a free Bento Grid plugin for Indesign that lets you adjust sections, corner radius, spacing and also the units in real time. I want to know, if you would use this too - please let me know and I will prepare everything to ship the final plugin for Indesign. Thank you so much!

*Note that this is not an official plugin from Adobe, even though I work there. It's more like a fun project to help with my personal pain points and improve my workflow in the apps.

I made a free plugin for Illustrator

My most personal missing feature: Making custom columns and rows that are editable afterwards - like in Indesign. So I tried to do this with a plugin - and it works!

With LiveMargins, you can set margins, columns, rows and gutters as guides in real time. Changed your mind? Just change your values and it updates instantly on all artboards.

To avoid comment farming, here's the link.

Please let me know how it works for you and if it's useful. *Disclaimer: This is not an official plugin from Adobe – use at own risk.

*UPDATE*

  • Taller default panels
  • Added a preview toggle (default is on)
  • Added one-click uninstallers
