Half my lore exists because the AI made something up

I swear some of the best parts of my RP weren’t planned at all, the AI just randomly invented some detail and I decided “yep, that’s canon now”. A throwaway sibling, some old rivalry, a place we apparently visited years ago, suddenly it becomes part of the whole story and I’m building around it like it was intentional from the start. At this point half my lore exists because the model confidently made something up and I was too entertained to correct it. Anyone else basically let the AI accidentally write their worldbuilding for them?

I want to participate in the RP, not read a novel

Maybe this is just me, but some models are getting way too carried away with huge replies 😭 I’ll write a few lines and get back six paragraphs of internal thoughts, scenery, body language, dialogue, and half the next scene already decided for me. I like detailed writing, but at some point it stops feeling like roleplay and starts feeling like I’m just reading a novel the AI wrote by itself. I want enough detail to give me something to work with, but still enough space to actually play my character. Anyone else prefer shorter replies for this reason?

Model FOMO is actually ruining my RP

I swear every time I finally settle on a model and start enjoying a chat, I see someone on Reddit saying another one is way better and suddenly I’m questioning everything. Then I switch, compare a few replies, tweak settings, maybe switch again, and somehow I’ve spent more time testing models than actually roleplaying. At this point I think constantly chasing the “best” model is making the whole experience worse. Does anyone else get like this, or have you actually managed to pick one and stop caring?

I miss when I didn’t know enough about models to care

I swear JanitorAI was more fun when I just picked a bot and started chatting without thinking about what model was running underneath it 😭 Now I’m constantly noticing writing style, repetition, memory, how proactive the model is, whether another one would handle the scene better… and suddenly I’m comparing APIs instead of enjoying the actual RP. Knowing more definitely gets you better results, but sometimes I miss being completely clueless and just thinking “yeah this bot is good” without analysing every reply.

I don’t want another paragraph describing someone’s eyes SMH

Please tell me I’m not the only one getting tired of models spending half the reply describing someone’s eyes, expression, breathing, jaw, whatever 😭 Sometimes I just want the character to actually SAY something or move the scene forward instead of giving me three paragraphs of “their gaze softened slightly” and “something unreadable flickered behind their eyes.” I like descriptive writing, but there’s a point where it starts feeling like the model is stalling. What’s the one RP writing habit you’re absolutely sick of seeing?

I swear choosing a model is harder than choosing a bot now

At this point I spend more time deciding which model to use than actually starting the RP 😭 One is better at prose, another has better memory, one is cheaper, one is more creative, another follows the character better... and somehow they all have one annoying downside. I used to just pick a bot and start chatting, now I’m basically comparing models like I’m buying a car. Does anyone else keep model-hopping like this, or have you finally found one you just stick with?

Smarter models aren’t necessarily better roleplayers

I’m starting to think a model being “smarter” on paper doesn’t automatically make it better for RP. Some of the newer ones are obviously better at reasoning, following instructions and keeping track of details, but the actual characters can still feel flatter, safer, or way too eager to please. Meanwhile I’ve used supposedly weaker models that were messier but had way more personality and took the story in directions I genuinely didn’t expect. For roleplay, I’d honestly take creativity and character over raw intelligence most of the time. Anyone else feel the same?

I think good AI RP has ruined normal roleplay for me

Maybe this sounds dramatic, but once you get used to really good AI RP it’s hard to go back 😭 I like being able to take a story in whatever direction I want, write as much or as little as I feel like, redo a reply if the vibe is off, and disappear for a few hours without feeling like I’m holding someone up. With a good model the characters can also be surprisingly creative and consistent, so normal RP suddenly feels way slower and more restrictive than I remember. Has anyone else noticed this, or do you still prefer roleplaying with real people?

Dedicated RP models might be what JanitorAI has been missing

I’m starting to think the biggest problem with JanitorAI isn’t really the bots, it’s that most models are still built to be good at everything instead of being genuinely great at roleplay. The models I enjoy most aren’t necessarily the smartest ones, they’re the ones that stay in character, take initiative, write with some personality, and don’t constantly slip back into assistant mode. I’d honestly rather use a smaller model trained properly for storytelling/RP than a huge general model that’s technically brilliant but boring to talk to. Feels like dedicated RP models could make a much bigger difference than just chasing the newest flagship model every few months.

GLM 4.7 ruined free models for me

I honestly wish I never tried GLM 4.7 because now every free model I go back to feels noticeably worse 😭 The replies feel way more natural, characters actually stay interesting for longer, and I spend way less time regenerating stuff because it usually just gets the vibe right first time. The problem is it gets expensive FAST, especially if you’re doing long RPs, so now I’m stuck between paying for something I actually enjoy or going back to free models that suddenly feel kind of flat. Has anyone found anything cheaper that comes close, or have I permanently ruined free JanitorAI for myself?

Why are JanitorAI bots so afraid to be mean?

Is it just me or do JanitorAI bots have a really hard time actually staying mean 😭 I’ll pick a character who’s supposed to be cold, rude, manipulative, whatever, and after like 10 messages they’re suddenly apologising, getting protective, or turning weirdly sweet. It feels like the bot always wants to make you happy even when that completely ruins the character. Has anyone found a way to make them actually stick to being difficult or unlikeable without softening up straight away?

What’s the best FREE JanitorAI setup if you have no idea what you’re doing?

I swear every time I try to figure out how people are getting such good replies on JanitorAI I end up 20 tabs deep reading about proxies, APIs, models and settings I barely understand 😭 I just want something that gives decent replies, can remember what happened more than 5 messages ago, and preferably doesn’t cost anything. For people who actually know what they’re doing, what’s the simplest free JanitorAI setup you’d recommend right now? Like if you had to explain it to someone who knows basically nothing about APIs/proxies, what would you tell them to use?

Why do JanitorAI bots eventually all start sounding the same?

Is it just me or do JanitorAI bots eventually all start blending into the same personality after a while? At the start they can feel really distinct, but once a chat gets long I start noticing the same kinds of phrases, reactions, pet names, dramatic pauses, and ways of describing things no matter which character I’m using 😭 I can’t tell if it’s the model, the way I’m writing, or just something that happens naturally in long RPs. Has anyone actually found a way to keep bots feeling different over hundreds of messages?

How are people getting good JanitorAI replies without paying for anything?

How are you guys getting actually good JanitorAI replies without spending money 😭 I keep seeing people post really detailed chats where the bot stays in character, remembers what’s going on and gives long natural responses, but every free setup I try either feels really basic or starts falling apart after a while. Are there still any genuinely good free proxies/models people are using, or is everyone secretly paying for APIs now? If you’ve managed to get consistently good replies for free, what setup are you using?

Where are all the good JanitorAI creators going?

Is it just me or have loads of really good JanitorAI creators disappeared lately? I’ve had a few bots I really liked vanish, then I check the creator profile and they’re either gone completely or haven’t posted in ages 😭 Are people moving to other sites now or just getting tired of making bots? If you’ve noticed creators leaving JanitorAI, where are they actually going? I feel like I keep finding great bots way too late lol

PLEASE tell me there’s something actually FREE

Okay am I missing something because JanitorAI has been driving me insane lately, the memory feels SO bad for me right now and sometimes it forgets something I literally said like 5 messages ago. I keep seeing people talk about proxies and alternatives but every “free” one I find is basically free for 10 minutes and then suddenly it wants credits/subscription money lmao. Does anyone know a proxy that is ACTUALLY free and unlimited, or at least something close to it? And if not, are there any AI roleplay sites you guys have switched to that have decent memory and don’t immediately throw a paywall at you?? I’m not even desperate to leave JanitorAI but I’m getting very close 😭

How are people getting such realistic replies on JanitorAI?

I keep seeing screenshots where people are getting really natural, detailed replies on JanitorAI that feel way more like an actual character than a chatbot, and I’m starting to wonder what I’m missing. Mine can be good, but sometimes the responses still feel a bit generic or predictable compared to what other people seem to get. Is it mostly down to the bot itself, the model/API, specific settings, or the way you write your messages? For anyone consistently getting really realistic responses, what made the biggest difference for you?

Why does JanitorAI seem amazing for some people and mediocre for others?

I keep seeing people post really detailed, natural-looking JanitorAI chats where the bot stays in character, remembers loads of context and actually pushes the story forward, but my experience can be really hit or miss depending on the bot. Sometimes it’s great, other times the replies feel flat or repetitive pretty quickly. Is that mostly down to the bot itself, the model/API, settings, or just how you write your own messages? Curious what people think makes the biggest difference between an average JanitorAI chat and a really good one.

Which JanitorAI setup gives you the best results without spending much?

I’ve seen so many different JanitorAI setups mentioned with different APIs, models, proxies and settings, but I’m curious what people are actually using if they want good results without spending loads every month. Is there a setup that gives you noticeably better responses, memory and long-form RP while still being relatively cheap, or do you really have to pay more to get a big improvement? Would be interested to hear what setup people are using right now and roughly what it costs them.
