RedMagic 11 Pro headphone jack audio.

Hi,

I'm a die-hard wired audio user (on Shure SE846 for the last decade). Hated sound and experience of every wireless headphones I've tried so far. I'm being chased away from brand after brand after they drop 3.5mm jack: Google, Samsung, Sony, and now, at last, ASUS discontinues Zenfone and ROG to "Focus on AI." ASUS, I hope AI smothers you one day.

Anyway, here I am, looking at the last high-end phone brand with audio jack - Redmagic. People who have it, how's the sound through 3.5mm? Snapdragon sound quality is fine, I'm worried specifically about DAC power, as phone manufacturers often skimp on it (I returned Sony Experia because it was too quiet through the wire). I find (found) ASUS output to be good enough. Is Redmagic similar? Can it drive something like se846 well?

I'm asking here because no reviewers test for it as I'm now the last user of wired headphones on the phone on Earth apparently.

Never meet your idols (GFiber, Nashville, TN)

I've been dreaming about Google Fiber ever since I heard of it a decade ago. Finally moved to the city that offers it.

My setup is as follows: a cable (Cat 8; I tried two) runs from the 10 gig connector on the GFiber router to the 10 gig connector on my PC's motherboard. No devices on the network yet, I just moved. This setup on AT&T and Frontier before that gave me the top speed I paid for - half a gig up and down.

GFiber (1 gig plan) gives me 650mbit up and 75mbit down.

Level one support: "Those are amazing speeds already! Nothing has to be done. Rate my service."

Level two support: "It's your device. Get a better computer."

Gfiber support has two tricks up its sleeve: reboot the fiber jack, reboot the router. If both fail, blame the consumer.

Never meet your idols. I'm properly turned off by such support. I need fast, reliable internet for work, and if THAT is how they handle issues, I need to hop back on AT&T asap.

Maybe you guys can help me. Anything I can try? The one weird thing is that those speeds are only on Google's own speed test (the one that pops up when you Google "internet speed test"). I tried downloading a Steam game, and it was a full 1 gig. Maybe it is a problem with a test, I'm not sure anymore. 3rd-party tests also show 1 gig up and down. Thoughts?

Hartford CT - the Fury Road.

A Hartford resident drives on Main Street in style.

Hard to impress somebody from Eastern Europe with irresponsible driving, but holy cannoli, what is your problem, Connecticut, and Hartford in particular? I've only seen driving this insane on a GTA server overrun by 8-year-olds.

Blinkers - what's that? Speed - 30-40mph over the limit. Letting someone merge/ change lanes - lmao, no. Street racing everywhere, mostly Honda Civics on Honda Odysseys. Stop signs are for decorative purposes only. Phones held by two hands, eyes on the phone, steering with knees. Turns across six lanes at a 30-degree angle. Windows all the way down, music volume all the way up. Tailgating. Approaching 30mph over the speed limit from behind and swerving around you at the last second.

Road rage. I've seen a guy stop, pop his trunk, grab a broomstick, and try to impale another dude with it through the windows (that were unfortunately down to bless the streets with tunes) and the sunroof. Got a video of that, too, on my dashboard cam.

Don't get me started on the CT-860-Bikelife crowd on the bikes, trikes, dirt bikes, and quads. Motorcades 100-200 strong, speeding up and down main roads, sporting WWII helmets, all cranky as infants with colic, doing tricks, erecting their vehicles (coincidentally, the only thing they can get up). Sure, dude, show me your gun for stopping at a stop sign and slowing you down. I've never seen a gun in the US before; it's truly fascinating.

And the noise, dear lord. A dude driving a Ram with the whole truck bed lined with speakers pointed at the sky.

I can hear him coming from 3 blocks away at 2 a.m.. Another one is driving a hatchback with the back door removed and replaced with a subwoofer, entertaining guys on dirt bikes behind them. Oh, and muffles - either none of wider than in the adult industry. This is seriously a GTA server. If you can't wait for GTA 6 to drop, just come over and enjoy.

Police. They are there, I've seen them. I think they are all busy with major crimes or something, like serial killers and drug cartels. Noise, speeding, violence, and even waving your gun around are not enough to elicit a response. "Nothing can be done, and we won't chase the motorcade." So, if you want to wave your gun around, just join the motorcade, got it. Beats overenforcement in my home country, I suppose. Even in Tennessee, my previous state, where a pulse is all you need to get a gun, cops treat gun-in-hand-on-the-road scenarios seriously.

So, what's going on, Hartford? Is something in the water? Is it something you smoke? Morbid curiosity at this point.

For non-residents, if you have to stay in Hartford for whatever reason, draw a 3-mile circle around the Capitol and avoid this area at all costs. Also, be alert on the highway and know that drivers either don't look at the road, or look at it only to race.

Sell me on Zephyrus 2025 (GU605) vs 2026 (GU606)

After a long time thinking, I decided to get another Zephyrus to replace my aging 5-year-old Zephyrus with a 3080 (I was hoping for a Framework with a 5080 to come out, but oh well).

So, it is either 2025 GU605 (5080 or 5090) or 2026 GU606 (5080 or non-existent 5090).

GU 606 seems like a horrible deal. 1 TB SSD on 606 vs 2 TB on 605 to start, and it's gen 3 vs gen 4 (the balls on ASUS!). Slower (but more power-efficient) CPU on 606. 606 is $1,200 more expensive than 605 for the 5080 variant ($3,600 for 605 vs. mind-boggling $4,800 for 606). I can foot the bill, but just because I can doesn't mean I like being ripped off.

Yes, the screen on 606 goes up to 1,100 nits in HDR, and yes, the power budget on 606 is 160W vs. 120W on 605. Screen aside, how much more performance are we talking about here? The only apples-to-apples comparison I could find (same website reviewing both machines with the same benchmarks) is GU605 5070ti vs GU606 5080. Even GU 605 5070ti is uncomfortably close to GU 606 5080. I feel like GU 605 5080 will be essentially identical to GU 606 5080 in gaming, more power or not.

So, can anyone sell me on the 2026 Zephyrus? It does look like a massive ripoff for no apparent gain. Yes, the screen is great, but I honestly don't care about it since I mostly use the laptop for work (it utilizes gaming engines, which is why I care about gaming benchmarks), and I'll probably set the screen to 400 nits and forget about it.

ProArt P16 (H7606) - beware of downgrade on Asus Shop.

Asus wants you not to notice, so I make sure you do. On their website, they silently downgraded their top-of-the-line ProArt P16 (H7606) model to a 2 TB SSD. It used to be with 4 TB, and it is still sold on Best Buy with a 4 TB SSD.

Profit margins aren't fat enough on a $5,500 laptop, huh, ASUS?

MSI Stealth A16 - any reasons not to get it?

Hello,

I'm looking for a niche laptop: something that packs high spec (64gb Ram, RTX 5090) in a 4-ish lb chassis.

My options are basically the Razer Blade 16, the ASUS Zephyrus G16, and the MSI Stealth A16 (anything I'm missing?). Both Razer and ASUS are downright insulting with their prices. MSI is currently reasonable for 2026 hysteria, although it's on backorder.

Anything I should be concerned about with MSI laptops, specifically A16A3074? Does anybody own it? How's your experience with MSI laptops and their support?
