Switching to an industrial sewing machine - what should I expect?
I've been running a Juki dnu-1181n daily for the past three years, making leather and canvas costumes and props for theater productions and exhibition projects. The machine lasted longer than I expected but the last few months have been a real challenge thread tension has become inconsistent on leather thicker than 3 mm. It skips stitches around hardware attachment points and strap assemblies and last month two costume pieces failed at their highest-stress seams right before a show, forcing us to remake them from scratch at the last minute.
At this workload and with tight production deadlines, those kinds of failures are no longer minor inconveniences they cost real time and create a lot of unnecessary stress.
What started as occasional project work has effectively turned into ongoing production tied to a packed schedule of premieres and exhibition openings. I'm now looking at the Juki dnu-1541s as my primary workhorse machine.
