Before 2014, most middle-class Indians primarily invested in fixed deposits and debt instruments. Over time, the BJP government increased taxation on many of these avenues, reducing their attractiveness. As a result, investors gradually shifted toward equities, mutual funds, and options trading.

When people began moving toward commodities like gold and silver as alternative stores of value, the government imposed higher import duties and restrictions on gold imports, pushing costs even higher.

Now, a growing number of Indians are looking to diversify globally and move part of their wealth outside India into countries they believe offer more stable taxation and investment policies. If this trend continues, will govt hijack that as well?
