tl;dr Traded in/sold 2 mediocre guns (a Taurus and a PSA) to Bass Pro and got more than 70% of what I paid for both.

I had a couple of guns I don’t like or ever shoot, and I’m in the market for some new additions to my collection, so I thought I’d see how it would go trying to sell/trade them in at Range USA and Bass Pro, mostly for shits and giggles and because I’m too lazy to sell them private party/on consignment/on Gunbroker etc.

The guns I decided to part with were a PSA Dagger Compact, and a Taurus 856 Defender TORO in 38spl that came with a cheapie Riton optic on it from the factory. For the Dagger, my total cost for it was $300, having bought the slide for $250 and the frame on sale for $49.99, and I threw in an old 15rd Pmag from my pile of range mags. The Taurus 856 Defender TORO with included optic, I paid $410 for, and I threw in a speed loader for it someone gave me.

Range USA declined to make an offer on either as my firearms “don’t meet our current inventory needs”. I guess they just want more Sigs and Gen 3/4 Glocks to go with the ones that don’t sell from their used gun cases.

Bass Pro… offered me $220 for the Dagger and $290 for the Taurus 856. Cash.

That’s 73.5% of what I paid for the Dagger and 70.75% of what I paid for the Taurus revolver.

Honestly, that’s more than I what I would have hoped for if I’d done a private sale. Realistically, I would have taken $300 for the pair to pay for an LCP Max that I just want to mix and match uppers and lowers with the one I have 😂

Things that likely helped how much I got: I cleaned both guns very thoroughly, and both had a low round count (less than 100 for the Dagger and 250 for the Taurus) so very little wear. The Taurus I brought in the original box with the original manuals inside. They aren’t rare guns at all, but no one has had that Taurus in stock in months, and PSA hasn’t had that same slide in a while. My local Bass Pro only has like less than 50 pre-owned guns listed on the website compared to the other one nearby having over 100, and I only saw like 23 in the used gun case, so maybe they’re trying to replenish used inventory 🤷🏻‍♂️

While I was waiting, the old timer working there told me that he’s always very impressed with the offers they make and that “it’s like 65%”. I wasn’t expecting that to mean more than 65% of what I paid for the guns 😂
