Rock/Metal near Connecticut

Hi all,

I’ve been checking out this subreddit for a little while but this is my first time posting. I'm (21 enby) a recovering theater kid from Connecticut, and I'm hoping to find local folks to meet up and maybe see if we can make something happen. I grew up singing all the time and have been wanting to get back into it for a while now. I've always wanted to be in a band, so I figured it's worth a shot.

I've always been into 80's rock (Twisted Sister, Poison, Quiet Riot, Journey, Def Lepord, Queen, etc.) and pop ("Kids in America", "Hey Mickey", "Karma Chameleon", "Wake me up Before you go-go", etc.). I've also recently been getting really into metal (Motionless in White, Slipknot, Black Veil Brides, Marilyn Manson, Ice Nines Kills, System of a Down etc..), and have been learning how to sing MIM's America and Brand New Numb.

Is there anyone in or around CT who likes rock/metal music and would want to make a band? Are there any local bands that need a singer? If not, a virtual/online band would be awesome too, though I'm not sure how that works.

What am I doing (try 2)

Eddit: This is my first time posting a video on reddit and I'm not seeing it. not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Sorry I was having problems with the first post and adding video hopfully this time works

I just found this subreddit and got very exited becuse I've been wondering about this for forever. If this isn't the right sub or there's another place that might be to post this, please let me know. I would really love to find an answer.

I've recently been getting into metal music/ music with screaming sections (Slipknot, Black Veil Brides, and Motionless In White are my favorites, and I've heard two of those are kind of gray zone, but I'm not sure). Listening to the screaming sections reminded me a lot of these weird voices I've been able to do since I was a kid, and always wondered what they were. There are four of them that I call the "Demon/Chainsmoker", "Alien voice", "Voiced alien voice", and the "Tigger/Bobcat Growl".

I was a theater kid growing up, so I was told not to do them because I would damage my voice. I kept doing it anyway because it was fun and I wanted to be able monsters someday. I don't know what I'm doing to make these sounds other that,

  1. I think the top of my throat buzzes or vibrates, which it doesn't do when I talk

doesn't

  1. I feel something move in my throat moves when I do lower pitches, I think it's my larynx and/or Adam's apple, though it could be something else

  2. When I was younger and did the demon voice a lot, I could get it deep enough that I could give myself a chest message if I pushed hard enough- but it would make me cough and/or gag

I did some quick recordings of me doing "Ma May Me Mo Moo" in the demon, alien, and voiced alien voices as well as the "Tigger roar", but I might update them with just recording around doing these voices instead.  I'll leave them in the comments since Reddit won't let me include the clips in the post itself. the video's not great but I wasn't sure what to do to show the full range of the diffrent voices

Does anyone have any idea what these voices are?
