Thank you Fitz. ♥️

I’m a mid 50s man, living alone, and prone to depression. In a pretty low mood phase a few years ago, it occurred to me that caring for someone else might be good for me, and I got Fitz. She was a breeding queen, but had an operation and became “useless” to the breeder, so she was unloved, and far cheaper than MCs usually are.

Getting her was the best idea I’ve had in years. She’s now my constant companion – seems incapable of being in a room I’m not in for longer than 10 minutes – and she makes such a difference to my mood.

Thanks Fitz. You’re wonderful. ♥️

Which Wonders do you always watch?

We’ve all seen the animation for every Wonder a million times, but there are some I find myself watching all the way through, every time. They’re also just a nice break for a sip of coffee. I just wish they were timelapse animations, and not just boom boom boom.

I can’t not watch the Great Lighthouse be built. Somehow it’s just lovely, and I love seeing it go up. Also Doi Suthep is beautiful with those floating lanterns. And if I can get Colossus (almost never) I’ll watch it all.

Leaders you’ll auto attack or restart?

Who are the leaders who, when you see them early, you’ll immediately start your war plans, or simply hit restart?

I’m usually going for a sim city game – leave me alone to build my stuff please – so if I find Jerxes as my nearest neighbour, I’ll flat restart, even after quite a few turns. If he can get to you easily, he’ll guaranteed make the game about war and nothing else, and drain so much tempo, resources and focus, the game becomes unfun (for me).

If I find good ol’ Benji, I’ll start planning to take his capital ASAP. More than anyone else, that bald bastard steals Every. Single. Wonder I want. 😡 And especially if I’m trying for a Science victory, if he’s left alone to just build what he wants, he makes it VERY difficult.

Be honest: how often do you hit restart?

I like a challenge, but I don’t like feeling I’m losing all the way through antiquity, and a poor start location can make that happen. I might restart 3 times before I settle on a start I like.

What if religion DIDN’T suck?

We alle agree – religion in VII is pants. It’s clearly a placeholder, which I can only imagine will be reworked ASAP. I’ve been thinking what it could be, without just making it like VI…

Fervor: okay, make it a bit more like VI. 😅 Each tile has a Fervor (Faith) value, based on various influences from the following. Also, the higher your science is than your culture, the lower your religion’s overall Faith.

Temples and Shrines: give Temples a large Faith influence range, and add a Shrine as a spammable unique building built on rural tiles (like the Step Pyramid etc.), probably behind an unlock, that has a small but strong Faith range. This influence would be exerted across empire borders, so strategic placement of both buildings would be a thing. A foreign settlement could auto-convert, if your religion’s influence hits it hard enough for long enough.

Missionaries: keep them as is, except instead of BOOM convert, they reduce the Faith where they are, and add Faith in the new religion. Over a threshold = conversion. Conversion = the settlement’s Temples and Shrines switch to your religion.

Priests: add a religious “defensive” unit. Station them on a temple and they strengthen the Faith influence, and maybe increase range. Behind an unlock? Maybe they gather experience and abilities like commanders?

Martyrs: Temples or specific religious Wonders can create religious Great People, who can sacrifice themselves on Temples of other religions, functioning as a Faith bomb for your religion and giving the Temple they came from a buff.

Religious Wars: declare a religious war, and your units have a buff if they’re within range of a Priest. Maybe war support buffs/debuffs based on your religion’s Faith vs your opponent’s. Option to propose peace and select which settlements convert.

All of these add a lot more strategy and interaction to the current whack-a-mole system, and create a lot of opportunities for new/reworked Wonders, Relic effects, religion options, etc.

What’re your ideas?

Carthage colonist production?

I’m playing Carthage for the first time, and after putting down my city, I don’t have the option to produce a colonist, just Scout, Warrior and Galley. Is there some special requirement to be able to make colonists? 🤔

Longbow recommendations? Blackfoot?

Hi bow-friends,

I’m looking to get back into archery (finally). I’ve got a Bearpaw Penthalon Hero takedown recurve, but would like to try out a longbow.

What I care about:
- 30 lbs max (I’ve got a 28” draw)
- D shape (not too visible recurve when strung)
- up to €300ish
- For target shooting
- Findable in EU

The Bearpaw Penthalon Blackfoot’s at the top of my list so far. Anyone have experience with one, or recommendations for something else?
