Do any of you guys use uncommon welding processes?

I'm reading an old book that was released in either the 50s and 60s and it mentions a lot of different welding processes apart from the typical MIG, STICK, TIG and Flux-cored welding processes. One example is submerged metal-arc welding. The electrode and base metal are submerged in a blanket of granular flux. There's a bunch other like Electroslag welding.

Are these processes ever used in more specialized jobs or have they gone the way of the dinosaurs?

Found these fellas in Fort Meyers Florida. I'd love to know what species of frogs they are

How do you guys manage athletes foot?

Not sure if this question belongs on this ever so prestigious sub, but here goes. I'm sure many of us wear boots or footwear if some kind for hours on end so I ask the question, how do you guys deal with fungus. I use spray powders and that shit that comes in a small glass bottle that you use a brush to leather on your shit, but it comes back. I guess it's the reality of working in a trade.

My hands too, or maybe it's eczema or something, but wearing rubber gloves all day suck. My hands, and especially the spots between my fingers, are all dry, cracked and burn like hell sometimes.

How long until this muscle loss becomes permanent

I work construction and stuff. I'm kind of bummed out, I have noticed it getting bigger, the quad, slowly. I'd hate to lose my skinny legs muscle and the strength.

Why does the end of my weld look like that?

6013 1/8 rod on .25 steel. I do not remember the amperage settings, this photo was taken back in April.

But I've noticed I've gotten a few welds that end like this. If they don't look like this at the end they're usually a crater, which I need to fix the way I finish my welds.

Is 7018 supposed to be easier than 6013?

I was often told 6013 was easier to learn as a beginner due to the the fact it was easy to strike an arc with, something it is definitely superior in and something that 7018 struggles to do, strike an arc.

But, I'm finding that aside from struggling to strike an arc, after the initial arc, 7018 is easier to use. The puddle is definitely A LOT more readable than 6013. I always assumed 6013 just had haters for haters sake but I have to concede and say that 7018 is so much easier to use. The welds are also coming out nicer, they look like something resembling a proper weld. At least for me as a beginner.

My beads are nothing to write home about, but I noticed I had an easier time right out the gate with 7018 than I did with 6013. Granted, they're shit welds still, but my 6013 ones were definitely shittier by a decent margin.

Even more crap

I'm having a really hard time with a few things. Not leaving a crater at the end of the weld, especially on the little blobs that I'm doing (I'm practicing starting he arc without he electrode sticking to the plate). Burning through the plate is another problem, though I'm getting better at avoiding that.

I'm also not used to running 3/32 rods. I've mostly used 1/8 rods on thicker metal, I'm not sure how big the weld bead is supposed to be. They look super small to me and my brain says to slow down and the the weld wet out, of course if I go to slow I just burn through the metal. If anyone could give me an idea of the proper 3/32 bead size I'd greatly appreciate it.

I definitely need to focus on, everything I guess, my travel speed and arc length isn't consistent.

Any help and pointers are greatly appreciated.

Bad buds I've welded. Why do I get a hole when I remove the electrode? I can't seem to pin point what causes them?

Staying in the same spot too long maybe?

6011 turds on 11 gauge steel

The last one is all beat up from me banging it with the chipper hammer. I welded it to the metal on the bottom by accident.

Rod was 3/32 in size.

When does the pain go away?

I had knee surgery 9 months ago and I am mostly pain free. Except that sometimes when I sit for a long time with my knee bent it hurts. It's like a sharp stinging pain I get all of a sudden. The last time I had this shit x rayd the hospital said it was healing fine. Whatever that means.

What exercises would you recommend me for a partial patellaectomy.

Hello! I had a partial patellaectomy about 9 months ago. I haven't been to PT since around April. I would like to do more for my leg as the strength doesn't seem to be on par with the other one.

I currently do leg extensions with weights attached to my boot. And some lunges. But if there is anything else I could do please let me know!
