Advice

Hey all! Had a dermatologist appointment today and she confirmed that I am thinning at the crown. Definitely not the news I was hoping for, but at least I finally got some clarity.

She prescribed me 10% topical minoxidil and didn’t recommend anything else for now. No pills, no FIN. What confused me is that after looking online, I saw a lot of people saying 5% works just as well, or sometimes even better than 10%, so I’m not really sure why she started me on 10% right away.

I guess my main question is: what has your experience been with topical minoxidil alone? I know without a DHT blocker it’s not technically “stopping” the root cause, but did any of you get good regrowth/thickening or maintain your hair for years using just minoxidil?

Also, any tips on how to apply it properly, routines, or things you wish you knew before starting? Currently waiting for it to come in the mail.

Am I thinning?

Im 20 and have curly hair, so I always used to push this to side and think “that’s normal for my hair type.” But for the past week, i’ve been kind of freaking out and think I may actually be thinning. I do have a dermatologist appt scheduled, but I am super worried about possible side effects. While annoying, I know topical MIN would be the safest option, but it’s not as effective as FIN, or the MIN/FIN.

Is this thinning? Is MIN alone enough?

Hey everyone!

I’m 5’6 and around 156 pounds, and I’m trying to get more consistent with working out and leaning out a bit. Over the past week, I’ve started going to the gym and have mostly been using machines (chest press, shoulder press, lat pulldown, etc.). I’m not really using dumbbells right now, just sticking to machines.

Diet-wise, I’ve been eating around 1300 calories a day, but I’m still getting about 140–160g of protein. My main question is: is 1300 calories too low? I’ve seen mixed opinions, some people say that’s way too low, others say it’s fine, so I’m honestly pretty confused.

I’m also planning to stick with machines for now and not use dumbbells. If anyone has advice on that, I’d appreciate it too.

Overall, I’m just looking for beginner guidance:
- How many calories should I realistically be eating?
- How much protein do I actually need?
- What machines should I focus on?
- How often should I be going and how hard should I be pushing?

I know this is a lot, but I’m pretty new to all of this and feel like I’m getting a million different answers everywhere I look. I’m definitely motivated, just a bit lost, and I don’t want that to end up discouraging me. I’m not trying to get super skinny, just want a lean, toned, defined look with some visible muscle. Any advice is appreciated 🙏
