Seeing rats in movies is a whole different experience as a rat owner

I'm a big horror movie fan and they often try to use rats as the "aaahhh oh no scary!" kind of thing in some movies. You all know the tropes, I'm sure. It never really affected me before but now I actively find them adorable when they're meant to be scary. And they're always female! Guessing no one wants to see the lads and their big bols.

For example, I just watched the recent Nosferatu movie and there was a scene with rats on someone's body. Rather than being creepy I just noticed them all sniffing and being curious with their little heads bobbing. I felt similar about some scenes in Terrifier 3 but I'm not gonna go into THAT movie in this sub..

Anyone else here have similar experiences?

Shame THIS chunkalunk for eating anything she can get in her mouth

I bought my girls one of those ferret tunnels to run through. It started out nice until Marigold here decided the plastic on the ends of the tunnel was a good snack.

Seriously with the crap she's eaten it's a wonder I'm not at the vet every other week. 🫪

Shame this chunkalunk for barbering her sisters

I had to concede to nature and accept Clover has to be in her own tank for the sake of my other girls. This chunky little rascal just loves to chew the whiskers and faces of her sisters. Now she has her own condo at least

How do you feed your rattos?

I was asked how I feed my girls at the vet yesterday and it got me wondering how different owners feed their rats.

I fill a bowl and make sure it always has at least some food in it. I also throw some around their cage with seeds and oats.

Do you scatter feed? Bowl feed? Measure how much they get? How do you do it?

Bloated Penny Update

The diagnosis is in.

She chubby.

Yeah that's it. My girl wasn't really bloated, shes just fat. "Over-conditioned" was what the vet said. Happy there is nothing wrong and happy I took her.

It was also fun to see her poop when he was checking her stomach. That's my girl~

I'm late feeding her ONCE and she resorts to cannibalism

Watching Maple groom Hazel makes for some funny moments like this.

Sooo my girl has felt kind of bloated for a while

Little Penelope here got herself a big belly. I noticed it a a couple months back and tried to determine what it could be, concluding that since she was behaving perfectly fine that it was likely just some bloating

Well like I said, its been a good while and it hasn't improved. She's about 9 months old and I've decided I'm taking her to the vet to see whats up.

Has anyone else dealt with this before? What did the issue turn out to be? I am concerned based on what I found in my research but I am trying not to work myself up..

I'd really like to make a Gorilla/Centipede build, can anyone offer advice?

I started with a guide to get going on the right foot and now I'd like to branch out. I am working on leveling with the start of the Rock Splitter/Thorns build and while I do like it, it isn't quite what I'm after in the long term. A beefy poison build does feel like what I want, but leaning more towards the poison aspect.

Are most of the centipede/gorilla skills viable or are there clear winners and clear losers of the bunch? While I don't want to just follow a skill sheet I would like to avoid settling into something I like just to find out the skill combination won't get me far.

Everybody wants a movie that actually scares them but what IS scary anymore?

Slasher villains used to make people scared but now you can find merchandise with them everywhere you look. Freddy Krueger can't be scary when people put their little dogs in costumes of him.

Monster and animal movies don't hit like they used to. A big shark isn't scary anymore, its almost cute.

Ghost stories, at least for me, seem to be either laughably absurd or lean more emotional than horror

I don't have an example of everything of course but this leads me to wonder;

What is actually scary anymore? What can a horror movie include that can genuinely scare people beyond 'boo!' moments?

Edit: Saying "It's subjective" or "It's preference" is obvious and contributes absolutely nothing to the conversation.

We've got some squirmers over here!

0.5 seconds of being held up was too long for Marigold.

Penelope was a bit more receptive.
