Australia's Cutest Pet is ALMOST a Fancy Rat!

Hello Rattitors,

We are officially up to the last 24 hours of the RSPCA's Cutest Pet Awards. All donation votes remain doubled and Icy is solid in the top 5! However, she is still more than 3000 votes behind 1st place. To all you amazing people and rat lovers who have backed us we ask you give your all in one final push! Free votes are available every 24 hours and doubled votes make even the smallest donation powerful! Though we’re against the odds and the underdog (or in this case ‘under-rat’) if we all put in a little we could make this happen. The only fancy rat left, through the power of one amazing community, this is our last chance to show Australia that “We love Fancy Rats!!”

All paid votes go towards directly supporting vulnerable animals.

To describe Icy Pole (and indeed the beautiful fancy rat community) in the words of William Shakespeare “Though she be but little she is fierce!”

No matter the end result, you are all amazing and have raised over $500 dollars for animals in need as well as shown Australian’s that the Rattie community will fight for their beliefs and love these small precious animals🩵

(The last pic is a shirt I painted/designed for Icy's campaign, thanks again everyone, we'll see you on the other side!)

Is this abuse?

So for context I just rehomed one of my rats because he lost his cage mate, but the girl who bought him seems really uneducated on rats, does this look like abuse? Or am I overthinking, she sent me a picture of him and his new cage mate (he’s the white one on the left) but I’m pretty sure she cut all of their whiskers off.. I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but I don’t know what to do, can I report someone for abuse??

New babies!

I just brought these girls home the other day. I cannot get over how cute they are. They have a few weeks of quarantine and growing to do before they get introduced to the rest of the mischief.

Easiest introductions ever

Recently I ended up coming home (unplanned) with two rescue girls that I couldn't leave behind. I have four very friendly girls already that I needed to do intros with so I do my research and get everything setup for the carrier method.

Things are ready to go so I put them all in the tiny cage and... Nothing. No reaction whats so ever. The new girls look confused as they are quite timid but they accept the approaches. There's some cleaning but nothing two aggressive.

So I decide to move to the next cage and it's exactly the same. They sleep next to each other and sniff each other but overall there's no difference in behaviour.

So I decided to take a risk and jump straight in to the big cage and the only thing that happened was a brief "fight" of who gets to hump the girl in heat. I'm starting to think that my rats are too dumb to notice that two more have appeared.

They’ve got the whole room to explore but they’d rather be in a bag of nothingness. The way of the rats

Whats wrong with her???

Ive never had a rat just lock up. This is the first time I've ever seen this. She was just fine 5 hours ago! Perfectly healthy! No wheezing or wincing or anything just.. randomly like a ragdoll!

He's planning the world domination

O nome dele é Berry, mas talvez eu devesse mudar para Brain. (His eyes are half-open because this photo was taken when he was falling asleep.)

This is Joseph. Joseph is concerned because I call him ugly at least once a day.

Not even a single thought in his head

Meet Root, but I don't think he even knows he exists.

Cone of shame :(

Bingley absolutely hates his cone. poor baby, he’s only 7 weeks old :( he unfortunately had to get stitches after one of his sisters put a nasty gash in him. Thankfully he did super well with the surgery and came back full of energy immediately after waking up. Just curious about the recovery process though, is it normal for him to have lots of porphoryn around his nose?
first picture is the one they put up on the waiting room screen at the animal hospital😂

Shame her

This is Fanny. She is an adventurer. Her sister Cozy is very concerned with her lack of self control, as am I. Cozy and I have trauma bonded over her selfish disregard for our anxiety. Please feel free to shame her.
