Airpod charging

Hello I have a pair Airpod pros and I'm struggling to get them charged at work. They still the lighting cable to charge instead of USB-C. I plugged them in and i checked through my phone and sure enough it says they were charging. I come back an hour later and nothing the case or the airpods haven't charged at all. I've cleaned out the airpods, and the inside of the case where they make contact.

IDK is it my cable thats broken or do I need to take them somewhere to check the charging port to clean it or something? For some reason they refuse to charge at work but they charge perfectly fine at home .

Humor me for a second

Theoretically of course; I’m dealing with a lot of congestion and saline rinse netipot I’m coming for ya. With it we need to use filtered water, or tap water that’s been boiled. I’ve used distilled water and a factory sealed water bottle in the past. Now I’ve been looking at the Millipore/MilliQ water dispenser curious if that could work as well.

What do yall think lmao?

I've been sick 3x's since June I'M OVER ITTTTT

Just a rant but if yall have any advice im open to it. I got really sick mid to the end of June, and I was sick as a dog. IDK what I caught but whatever virus it was I did a number on me. Since I was stuck with a cough for a hot minute and got over it... at the end of July I got sick again but it was a dry cough and I wanted to die. I had no other symptoms for two weeks just a dry cough and that tickly throat that sends you into a coughing fit. Well I believe that cough evovled because I began to get insane sinus pressure and that lasted for like almost two weeks with no improvement. I went into the clinic and they gave me a 5 day round of antibiotics and within hours I felt relief and it really helped. Well last thursday I started to get a cough and a slight sore throat again and over the weekend it turned into wet cough with some phlegm. I have nothing else just a annoying af cough and phelgm that doesn't wanna come out.

Like seriously who did i piss off to be on/off sick like this. I don't work with children, or have kids, like is my immune system dead that it hasn't fought off this initial viral infection from june?! Like Idk how much more I can do of taking OTC cough syrup and drops. Theres nothing to do for virus cuz they mutate and change so much im so done I wanna be normal again.

Confused, and dissapointed

Well, I applied to a postion at UCSD at the beginning of the year. I kinda let it go since I never heard back anything until April when they asked me to interview. I did 2 different rounds of interviews for the position. Eventually the lab reached back out and offered me the position. I accepted and the they said they would begin the process with HR.

They ask for my references and it was the questionaire form. From there the lab reached back out to me and said its not standard that HR asks for offical letters. However, they were looking for typical letters of reccomendation. Some individuals who know my work style and have overseen me at work wrote me letters of recommendation. They showed me before they were sent out and said they would BCC me that the LOR had gone out. I hear back from them they said it all looks great and that they have told HR to move my application to the next round.

I received an email from HR today and they said that I have been rejected. I am upset of course because, why offer someone a role before checking references and then bouncing me between all the hoops. Secondly, I am dissapointed because if YOU asked me for extra information and have been actively communicating outside of HR for this "hiring onboarding process" I would expect that they would tell me directly that they'll be backing out.

I am so glad that I NEVER even put in a date or notified my current employer because this would absolutely be devestating if I would have ended my current position and end up unemployed. Honestly IDK if it the individuals and the system OR if I should just be dissapointed in myself to even believe I had a shot and that things were beginning to change for me. I'm mad, and sad at myself and I probably shouldn't be. Everyone is telling me "this means something better is coming" well it sure as hell doesn't feel like it

Job Recruiters Are annyoingly pushy and its frustrating

Hey all! So I am in the process of applying other new positions that are more aligned with my career interests. I am not un-employed but I have begun the job hunt which has involved the occasional recruiter. Now I am not so sure why they're annoyingly pushy and want to call and chat like that EXACT minute I have a chance to respond. I currently work in a lab and have a busy schedule. I respond to their messages on my own time (ie lunch break).

I understand recruiters are busy as well, and have several clinets and potential candidates. If I say I cannot talk in 5mins due to my schedule; please RESPECT that I cannot take a call right that second. The ammount of times when I respond and say "can we schedule a call for X time or tomorrow" and they respond with can you not do it now?! Didn't you see that I said I cannot today but I'm happy to schedule a time when I am free to further discuss a potential role?!

I understand typically people speaking with recruiters are sometimes unemployed, but there are some of us who are employeed at the time AND WE CAN'T JUST GET ON THE PHONE WHEN YOU WANT ME TO.

Ok, rant over I just need to scream out somewhere.

Wacky Hiring process...?

Hey yall so I applied to a job at UCSD back in January. I heard back about this position in late April and have done a couple interviews. I went through until they came down to two candidates and would be making a final decision. Last month they let me know they were going to offer the position, I accepted and the whole process with HR would begin.

They sent out a refrence request with HR, the questionaires went out and then it was quiet for a whole month. Until they got back to recently saying that while HR has the questionaire they wanted supplemental letters of recommendation. I'm in the process of having my refrences getting them sent out.

Is this standard at UCSD? Or is the department I'm applying to just kinda doing things differently than what is standard procedure? They said once letters were recieved that they'd notify HR to move me into the second round. Anyone experienced similar timeline when going through the hiring process?

Is this a new thing or is the lab I'm a part of just weird?

Hello All! So I've been a tech in a lab for a few years now and am looking to either going to grad school or applying to new positions else where (Honestly more of the latter). I've had soem new job prospects and did read at some point, I may need 1-3 letters of recommendation. Ok cool no prob. I went ahead and asked some individuals who i've worked with on projects with if they would write me a letter. They said they would, BUT that I need to write the letter, they'll add or take stuff out and sign out/send it out if necessary.

NGL I was a bit surprised because in the past professors, and previous managers have written me a letter of recommendation and sent it out/submitted. All they needed was my CV or resume and information where I was applying and for what. I haven't had to write my own reccomendation at all before. I understand we're all busy and such but it almost feels lazy...? If a PI told me to write it and theyll edit it sure I kinda get a PI but, post-docs not wanting to write a lette. Fine I can write it I'll write myself a good recommendation but I was wondering has this become the common thing now? Or is the lab I'm in just weird??

Birthday dinner recs!

Hello! I was recommended to post here from a different sub. My partners birthday is coming up and I’m looking for a place for a birthday dinner for two! Maybe a view would be nice too if possible (I know sometimes a view is what I end up paying for). I had a list but it’s just all over the place and was told by others they’re not good ideas. I’m not looking for anything super fancy/super expensive a budget of $50-100 seems reasonable to me. I’m open to different cuisines too (American, Asian, Italian, etc) help is greatly appreciated!!

Hello! I'm looking for some reccomendations/suggestions to take someone for dinner on their birthday. I have a list of some places in mind but IDK if theres someplace I just haven't considered. I am looking for a place with some good food, a must try in SD for anyone who's lived/visited.

I want some place still nice have a nice view of the city or water but thats not gonna break the bank(example prefix menus that cost $200 per person).

Some places I've thought of (I know some of these places won't throw in any freebies for a birthday) but any other places that you'd reccomend would be appreciated!!

  • Phil’s BBQ
  • Seneca Trattoria
  • Fortunate Son
  • Brigantine
  • Bali Hai

Hello All, I recently am looking for a new position and was able to get interviews at a great lab and make it through several rounds. On 4/16 I received an email saying they were looking to making a final decision but there were a couple of HR/administrative steps that had to be taken care of on their end. No problem understandable. Its been about two weeks and I haven't heard back regarding the position. I have been told by many friends/co-workers that this particular company takes a long time during the hiring process, and that this sounds pretty on par with various individuals experiences.

It's been about two weeks and was going to send an email to follow-up and check in about the position. Any advice on how to politely email and not sound desperate?

Advice is greatly appreciated.
