Skin slightly irritated around stoma

I have a Colostomy and am using a Hollister 2 piece. I have an adhesive allergy. Yesterday, I noticed the skin slightly pink and on the skin around the stoma. My hole is cut a little bigger than normal right now because I was constipated, osotomy nurse recommended it. Yesterday, I used the crusting technique and a wafer change and it helped. Today it is still slightly pink, only hurts, stings, when I clean it. I noticed a very tiny red bump by the stoma. Any suggestions on what to do besides crusting or just stick with that? Maybe stoma paste? Flonase? How often can I change the wafer, trying to avoid daily due to allergy. I have been lucky and not had stingy irritation before. Not sure if I should call the ostomy nurse tomorrow or if it’s not a big deal.

Anyone else have cramps with a BM?

I had my colostomy in December. I’ve been trying to get the consistency of my poop to stay normal with the help of my surgeon. I think we finally figured it out 1 cap of MiraLAX day 1 the next day 4 oz of apple prune juice. It seems to be normal now, but the past couple of days I’ve had some pretty bad abdominal cramps, the area above your belly button(stomach) as if I had a stomach virus, but I don’t. I wasn’t eating much the last week due to stress. The last 48 hours I ate a lot more than usual and had a lot more output because I was less stressed. Can switching up your food intake cause you to have cramping when you have a bowel movement? My surgeon is off for the 4th of July weekend. I used to get bad cramps in the beginning, but this hasn’t happened for a while. Just wondering if anyone else has cramping so long after surgery? Can it just happen random? I also want to thank everyone who has posted information about the crusting technique previously that I have read. Today I had some redness around the stoma and it worked like a charm. Because of this community I knew what to do! 💗

Belt and clothing suggestions

I had a colostomy done in December and a nephrostomy in January. My stoma is located about an inch- 1 1/2 inches below my belly button and to the left. I’m an elementary teacher and will be returning to work in September. I currently don’t wear a belt, but live in sweatpants with no problems. Any suggestions for a belt or what type of pants to get? I don’t do dresses, they are not my friend. Thanks in advance.

German Oven Pancakes

These are also called Baby Dutch pancakes. I make these often, pretty easy. Reminds me of a popover. Light and airy on top with buttery custard like bottom.

MiraLAX give anyone else side effects?

Hello all. So I have had a colostomy bag for 7 months now and still trying to get my poop consistency normal on a daily basis. I am on opioids for other medical conditions as well, which I know can slow down digestion and cause constipation, but getting off them right now is not an option. I take 200mg of Colace every morning and night. I have been taking MiraLAX a full cap one day and 1/2 cap the other day. It seems to be helping with the consistency. Unfortunately, I seem to having a side effect where my stomach feels hot, like temperature wise. I need to put an ice pack on it. Has anyone had similar problems and found a solution? I try to stay hydrated the best I can. Thanks.

Has anyone had there nephrostomy reversed?

Hello all! So I am supposed to have my nephrostomy reversed soon, but I’m anxious about it. Don’t get me wrong, I will be happy to have my tube removed and my kidney reconnected to my bladder. I currently have a nephrostomy and colostomy. The surgeon said the procedure was in evasive. It’s done robotically and 2 days in the hospital with an additional 1-2 weeks to heal. Just wondering what other people’s experience has been with recovery. Appreciate any info you can share.

Nephrostomy reversal pillow advice

Hello all! So I currently have a nephrostomy and colostomy. I’m having a nephrostomy reversal in the near future. My incision sight is on the lower left directly under your belt line. I know when it was first done it was painful to sit on. I’m trying to plan ahead and have a pillow ready. Does anyone have any suggestions? The pilllow would have to be soft and go on my back and my butt I suppose. The closest thing I seem to have found was the Brazilian butt lift pillow. Not even sure if that would work, but I figured I would ask here for help. Thank you.

Sleeping with a nephrostomy bag and colostomy bag help

Hi. So I have an nephrostomy bag and a colostomy bag on my left side. I currently am sleeping in a recliner so that I am on my back and this seems to be as comfortable as I can get. I have tried going back to bed for a couple of hours, but the nephrostomy tube or my back starts to hurt. Has anyone had any luck transitioning from the recliner back to the bed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
