Is this touristware?

It was my late Grandmother's, she last went to China in the late 80s. I've always assumed it was some slipcast decoration, then I noticed the scraping marks at the bottom. It seems to have some decoration in hongni, and some branches which I doubt could be done without handworking it. Then again, labour in China wasn't exactly expensive back then. What do you think?

Need I worry about such a minute crack?

My new teapot from Realzisha by Craftsman Gu Xiao Ming has a minute crack at the bottom-left point of the bottom seal. In terms of heat shock, I’ve mostly heated the pot with half-boiled water before using 100°c water; I’m not quite sure if this is necessary. Since the edges are so open, I’m inclined to believe this is a pre-firing crack caused by pressing the seal, and the clay has probably rejoined or was never cracked through. I can’t see anything on the inside, but it is wet at the moment and is taking ages to dry. Thanks very much for any input.

How come my Ashbeck (or current equivalent) tastes so bad?

I’m coming over from a tea-drinking side of things; I got a Yixing teapot, and not wanting it to be covered in limescale from the local (York) water like my kettle is, I did a bit of research into alternative water sources. This sub seems to recommend Ashbeck from Tesco, as I understand it is now under a different name, so I bought ten litres. It tastes so odd, as if plastic from the bottle has released chemicals into the water. I doubt that’s the case, as the sell by is 6/7 (tee hee) of 2028. It reminds me of when I visit Sheffield, I can’t stand their tap water, so I just chalked it up to my tastes not being used to the different minerals. I drank a few litres today, and feel this strange urge to be sick. It’s awful. Does anyone have any methods to make it a bit nicer?

Pelikan 350 propulsion issue

Hello everyone, as you can hopefully make out by my video, this Pelikan 350 will only propel its lead if either the top retaining ring or bottom finial is unscrewed. Also, when the pen is tight, it is very easy to push the lead back in. This is because the mechanism sits above the barrel when the ring is removed, so when it is tight, the mechanism is compressed past the first click. What can I do to fix this besides sanding away the brass? It only recently started to do this, so if it were to stop, the system would of course be loose. Many thanks indeed. I ought to outline that the clip being present makes no difference.

The screen doesn’t emit more light, but the colours are artificially distorted to appear brighter, as if you cranked the exposure up while editing an image. I don’t know why the mods won’t let me upload any media, it would be so much easier to describe that way.
