Advice, likelihood of large landlord suing
My wife and I have lived in this apartment for almost 5 years with on and off issues (hot water cut off, pests etc) and always communicated it to the super. Last year a large institutional landlord who I won’t name bought the building.
Early this month we noticed mushrooms growing from the bathroom ceiling. Contractors came and cut out the wrong section of the ceiling, claiming the leak was coming from somewhere else. They patched the area after cleaning and lo and behold, more mushrooms started growing from the other section within a few days. We’ve notified the landlord of all this, filed complaints with 311 and have asked to terminate our lease early. The landlord has not responded to our requests to terminate via email or phone.
My question - if we break our lease early, what are the chances of this company successfully suing us? If we leave early, do we lose our security deposit too?
We have 4 months left on our lease, assuming the sue is they could come after us for those remaining months, about $10k worth. Any help appreciated, thank you!!
