Preparation before China business trip: best eSim + VPN

I know this has been asked multiple times but the stability of eSims/VPNs seems to change weekly.

I will be in Shanghai and Shenzhen for work between the 11th and 18th of July.

I need a working eSim with integrated VPN that allows me to access Whatsapp and other "western" apps. I was thinking of using Holafly, as the app seems easier to use compared to Trip. Does it work properly now in China? Does it allow to access western apps?

Regarding the VPN, I want to get it for redundancy, just in case. But I have absolutely no clue, as the situation seems very unstable. Any suggestions?

Why is my AliPay app name showing in Chinese?

Is this safe? I need to link my credit card for my upcoming work trip. First time in China.

SOLVED: The app was downloaded form the Italian play store with the phone set up in the Italian language. The app is only compatible with English and Chinese. By switching the phone language to English, it now shows the English name Alipay.
