Is xenophobia just part of being Georgian at this point?

I get it, many of you hate foreigners for various reasons. But it's not even just that. It's not even just foreigners. It's the same exclusionary mindset turned inward on other Georgians. Someone's from the regions instead of Tbilisi, and suddenly they're "sopheli" getting mocked for their accent, treated like they're second class, uneducated villager who got potatoes from GD. Same energy, just aimed at your own people this time. There's always someone not ethnic and traditional enough for you.

So what do you actually get from that? Has anything changed? Does it make you strong as a nation when you can't even talk with each other? Fr everyone's just waiting for a reason to shit talk about someone.

Why do guys here keep staring at or flirting with my girlfriend even when I'm right next to her?

Hey guys, quick serious question. My gf came to visit me and something keeps happening that’s honestly getting old.

Even when I’m literally holding her hand or standing right there, some guys will just stare super long or try to flirt and joke with her like I’m invisible.

For example, the other day we were walking in Saburtalo, I had my arm around her and some guy approaching us smirked and said something in Georgian to her. Another time some dude ignored me completely, and started chatting her up asking where she is from. I said “hey man, we’re together” but he just laughed it off and didn't take a hint until we left.

This feels pretty bold compared to other places we’ve been. Egypt was worse but I didn't expect this here. Is this just normal? Or are we just unlucky? It kinda feels like foreign guys get less respect or something?

Local guys, what should I do? I don't want to get into fights. And to the girls here: does this happen to your boyfriends too or is it mostly us?

Not mad we can get by, just genuinely confused and a bit frustrated. Would love to hear thoughts.

Does Georgia want the benefits of Europe more than the discipline of Europe?

When people talk about Georgia’s European future, it’s usually framed as politics: Europe vs Russia, democracy vs authoritarianism, etc.

But isn’t there also a more everyday side to it?

Like, EU integration doesn’t only start in Brussels or in government buildings. It also starts with how society deals with normal obligations: rules, deadlines, public service, consumer rights, safety standards, maintenance, accountability, criticism, and just doing things properly.

A lot of people want the benefits of Europe, but Europe also means discipline. Paperwork, inspections, boring procedures, standards, responsibility, and people doing things correctly even when nobody is excited about it.

So I’m genuinely curious. Besides politics and government, what habits would need to change for Georgia to feel more European in daily life?

Can a country become European if people’s everyday habits and behavior stay the same? Or does Georgia want a European future without changing everyday habits?
